It's no surprise really on his day our best defender but sadly his injury problems have killed his career with us, its very sad but inevitable.

No surprise obviously, but still sad to see him leave. End of an era, a brilliant servant to the club and a top blue, and a top salesman second only to Liam Gallagher for zipped up to the top Madchester parkas.

Hope he gets an opportunity to actually play at home before the end of the season so we can all say goodbye while he’s hobbling off with a hamstring injury.

It took me a while to warm up to Stones at the very start, however what a player he's ended up being for us.

It's a shame he's always struggled keeping fit, or who knows how good he could've been

Him turning a corner and becoming an absolute monster on both sides of the ball in 2020/21 when Ruben showed up was something to behold. Thank you to one of the great English centre backs of all time.

Getting used to these big players leaving, but it doesn't get much easier.

Incredible player. Incredible character. That goal line clearance, and some of the goals he's scored, not to mention his ability to play out from the back, have been crucial for us and in helping define and entire playing style across England and probably further afield. Also speak to him as a person to take on the challenge head on, stumble, then recover to absolutely smash it.

I'm sure plenty will be interested in signing him even if it's just for twenty games, bit I do hope he can play a full season for someone. Likely Everton would welcome him back?

As for us, we'll be just fine. Nobody can be John Stones but we've created quite the little problem for ourselves here now with Khusanov, Dias, Gvardiol, Guehi and also Reis to come back. Assuming Ake goes bit who knows now. Which two are our best two? I wouldn't like to call it, and I had Johnny Stones as my top choice in any game just at the start of this season.

Same. If he had an injury-free career he’d be talked about as one of the best of the last few decades. Even of my Liverpool supporting mates has him as the best defender in the last 10 years.
