General Videogame Thread

How are people finding Crimson Desert? I’ve played about 30 hours and probably a 50/50 split of just wandering around exploring (holy shit it’s enormous) and also doing the main quest (only on chapter 3).

Visually it’s as good as anything I’ve ever played. I’m never bored just exploring, seeing something like a waterfall in the distance and exploring for caves and things to do. However, outside the main quest, I am finding the lack of quest themes and stuff to really get stuck into a bit lacking. Some huge castles and towns appear in the distance and you finally get there and it’s a bustling thriving community with actually nothing to do there.

Love the combat but it’s really tricky at times with so many combinations of buttons, but it does get easier and combat is a lot of fun. Leveling is a bit confusing and still seems very hit and miss in terms of what I invest in but you can learn so great skills that improve your combat and game play. Money seems pretty pointless at the moment so no idea what the fuss is all about having so many gold bars and credits as not found anything to really spend it on.

Overall it’s close to being one of the best games I’ve played but it needs a bit more substance and polishing before I would consider it that and I feel outside the main storyline to keep people interested.

I think its decent and don't understand what some of the worst reviews were on about. You can tell its not produced by a Triple A producer but its far from the worst thing I've ever played at release

I think it’s amazing really. How they add varied storylines and quests will really drive I think but I really can’t understand how anyone can say it’s a bad game. That being said I’ve seen a lot of reviews where people admit to trying it for 30 minutes and switching it off.

Crimson Desert looks like every other cookie-cutter magic based RPG that seem to get released every few months.

I'd love to see a proper follow up to something like Metal Gear Solid 5. I.e a modern day military RPG

Just finished Resident evil requiem

Amazing graphics and storyline.

Dunno if I can be bothered to go back through though and collect all the extra stuff.

It does have a lot to it, but from what I've seen its not an overbearing level of content. For me it feels like oh wow, more stuff to do. I played Black Desert years ago and can see the brief similarities (such as referring to mining/woodcutting as a "life skill") but it's been so many years that I don't remember loads more. If I was being really picky I'd like those life skills to have their own separate levelling criteria, so that if you really wanted, you could spend how many ever hours just being a miner, lumberjack, whilst the game world burns around you.

Im playing Resi 4 remake but it's too hard and I keep filling my kheks. Ive now installed infinite items and one hit kills for enemies to take the edge off. Still shits me up

There's a new patch out today. It seems as though they have taken most complaints on board which is promising to see. Noticeably, your town contribution no longer drops automatically for stealing. It actually made no sense to be penalised when nobody saw you commit the theft. Extensive list of other changes to read through if you can be arsed.

Been playing space marine 2 via Playstation plus for the last few weeks. Once you get past the campaign bit and into the bulk of the game in operations it becomes a fantastic game, as somebody that generally no longer bothers with multiplayer stuff, they nail this.

you can do it with bots if you want which is always appreciated but joining random games is easy, there is no over reliance on team mates not being idiots, it's obviously better to cooperate especially on harder difficulties but you can still plough through without if needs be.

I platinumed it and have decided to move on before it takes over but it's a game that I could easily have played for hundreds of hours more. I got 1 of 7 classes to max rank, then there is a whole prestige system you can do multiple times over for every class that makes you even stronger still, weapons to max out and make stronger, there is so much replayability in it.

If you're into co-op games dive into this, especially if you have ps+ where its free. Best pve multiplayer game i've played since deep rock galactic.

I've moved on to darkest dungeon 2, didn't play the first so there is an awful lot to understand and learn, i've only just started but I love these type of games, understand its brutally hard so i know im in for a challenge but can already see i'm going to be hooked on this for a while.

Well it’s happened again. Fell into the trap I told myself I wouldn’t do and paid £60 for Starfield PS5 which had only just been released and is plagued with crashes.

I imagine it may be towards November by the time they fix it.

As predicted nearly a fortnight ago, i'm well and truly hooked on darkest dungeon 2. starts off brutally difficult, with no real sense of progression and gradually getting stronger through the run, it's all about making the best choice from nothing but bad outcomes and getting through as much as possible. You do gain currency of sorts to gain permanent unlocks after every run though which is how you actually progress and make things doable. Soon as you find a few team synergies theough unlocks and you start taking on harder tasks, it feels a lot better. Still got more than half the base characters skills to unlock amongst everything else and there is an entire bigger mode that's similar to the first game that I haven't even tried yet, big fan.

Amateur mistake there. Bethesda have never released a game that works on release, even one that's been out elsewhere for years prior.

Oof...sorry to hear that man. I was debating doing the same, I wish it hadn't been made an Xbox exclusive initially, but given the feed back i'm not overly bothered I missed out on it, especially if you say it's plagued by issues.

Apparently they’re going to release a hotfix this week. All a bit vague though.

Playing Elden Ring, holy crap it’s frustrating but what a beautiful game, it’s stunning to look at, there is so much to it,I’ve nit even scratched the surface, unfortunately my reaction timing is crap and I’m constantly dying, it’s a pity there isn’t an easy mode because I’d love to play it all bit not waste 10 years of my life on it.
