Gabriel headbutt on Haaland

I think Taylor saw them coming together but I don’t think he saw the forward motion.

It’s very common for a ref to book both players if they came together. It happens every week.

I stand by my point though. Taylor had a good game and let the game flow well. He is a good ref as is Oliver. The rest are so so imo

I could see it in 035 mate so I'd be surprised if someone stood 5 yards away couldn't see it.

Agree that even if Taylor didn't see it, VAR should have.

Letting the game flow isn't a plus point when it should be stopped to award a free kick or book a player. Funny how these otherwise good refs always seem to miss these critical incidents, but then when VAR was first touted it was quoted as being a technology that could pick up the crucial incidents that the ref might have missed. Might not have been those exact words but that was literally how it was promoted.
Spot on. Clear and obvious errors. Unfortunately the VAR is being used to back up the on field ref's decisions, not to assist where he might have got it wrong

That wasn't any "rule 12".
"Deliberate Headbutts: In football, a deliberate headbutt of another player is considered violent conduct under Law 12 of the Laws of the Game. Players committing a headbutt are subject to a direct red card, and referees have the authority to take immediate disciplinary action (such as sending the player off) following the rules outlined by the FA "

You'll all be shocked to hear Dermot Gallagher on ref watch say he thinks the ref got it right and a yellow each was pretty fair.

He also claimed it would have been a different scenario had Haaland gone down. Why? The offence is exactly the same so he is effectively admitting play acting turns a yellow into a red. That's a disgraceful and damaging admission for the state of the game.
Couldn't agree more,.Was about to say something very similar, although not as succinctly. An offence is an offence, the number of times we have seen referees let their personal preferences influence their decisions. The Cup Final with red card for Henderson ,the one and only time the ref didn't go with VAR with accompanying smug head wobble ,the hair pull ,and yesterday's nonsense. I could go on ,and probably have but will just settle down andlook at the score again.

If he had rightly been sent off woudve meant a 3 match ban

Was it Keys who said that Taylor should not be reffing this game ,as he was from Manchester .....still of the same opinion ?

Can't see the Premier League doing anything now which is a shame as it's a straight red, 3 match ban which is massive in last few matches.

Agreed but not sure they can do that when he’s been booked?

Edit: Yes they can
I didn’t know that. I thought they could only look again if a yellow had not been showed as you originally thought.

If they can look at it they 100% have to look and say something. It’s a clear red and if they think it isn’t I want to know why?

I have to say I'm just as astounded by the faff defending the decision today, as I was by the original decision yesterday.

Did he deliberately move his head forward to make contact with an opponent? Yes

Did he make contact? Yes

Was it with enough force to have caused injury? Yes

You can't not give it just because Haaland doesn't go down. What kind of message does that send?

There is having an physical game and there is overstepping the mark. Gabriel overstepped on at least three occasions yesterday and was only punished once. But the headbutt is the clearest moment of all. It was silly, nobody would have had any complaints if he'd walked.

But yet it's defended? It's literally in the rules of the game, and they try to explain it away. That stinks, and makes me worry that what we'll see now is every effort to keep Arsenal on top. This decision, the var backup, for me brings the game into disrepute, because it's an obviously unfair application of the current rules.

Gabriel should be sitting out the next three games. The fact he isn't, and could very likely go on to score a very important goal for Arsenal given their set piece reliance, is not right. But we'll use it to fire the lads up before every game now. We have to be better than 12 every game from now on, because any room for doubt and we'll be buried by the officials.

The Premier League and PGMOL want to reward Arsenal for their loyalty to the Red Cartel so giving a red card to Gabriel for an obvious head butt will jeopardize that. There’s still time this season to screw City over even more.
