Whereas, a day spotting wildlife is $200

Yeah I don't doubt it's easy money in that sense, but I'm sure there's also luxury safaris that also cost $30000 or at least still more lucrative that farmland.

I don't know, I just don't believe that it's the only way. It might be the easier way.

My wife's boss went on a holiday to South Africa and for a couple of nights stayed in a hotel on the edge of one of the safari parks
They booked a walking tour into the safari park which literally was at the bottom of the grounds of the hotel
The guide who was taking them gave everyone strict instructions of what and what not to do once out of the gate. No talking, only walk when I wave my arm forward, stop when I raise my arm stuff like that. And most importantly under no circumstances do you run
So fully briefed off they trott down to the bottom of the grounds and out of the gate. They've gone no more than 20 yards in the tall grass when the guide raises his arm to indicate "stop "
The guide moves forward very slowly, and then even more slowly creeps back to the group and said "run"
Duncan says "you told us not to run"
The guide says "just fucking run"
So they did, back to the gate
It was a herd of elephants they were running from

Amateurs...everyone knows the best way to stop elephants charging is to take away their credit cards

I don't have any knowledge about that, but I am sceptical because I've heard this kind of justification for similar activities, when you could easily make the same kind of money just from tourism etc.

It may be in this case, I don't know, but this guy could easy pay the same money for the same trip, and just take photos.
