Most Overrated Player to Play for City

The players who everyone slags off aren't overrated.

I'm just mocking the double figure IQ of most of this thread, and that is being very generous.

He wasn't a big player in the big games, that is why I think he is overrated, he took a back seat when others stepped up to make history. That doesn't mean he isn't a very good player.

He should definitely have been capped as the likes of Ian Walker played for England.

Fair enough, obviously I disagree about Silva but I do agree your point about who is being named on this thread.

Samir Nasri. Slowed us down, always passed backwards. Didnt open defences or arrive in the box. Massively overrated by City fans after a goal against Chelsea.

Oh and there was a forward who got injured after a few games that was being treated like the missing Messiah when all he was was a journeyman. I think it was Bojinov.

I’d go with De Jong. Lost count at the amount of times people who didn’t know the game in the South Stand near me shouted get Barry off and De Jong, a player inferior to Barry in nearly every department. Thankfully Mancini knew.

I'm more in the camp of Grealish being underrated ! but agree he has wasted his talent
 
I am taking over rated as being highly rated amongst most blues but my opinion is different.

Controversial but mine are Kinkladze and Foden (upto the start of this season i would have also added Doku but i have completely changed my mind now

Disagree on this. When he could be bothered (the 11/12 and 13/14 seasons) Nasri was excellent at breaking the lines and arriving into the box. So many of his goals came from loitering on the edge and then moving into the area when the pass (or second ball) was on.

Wouldn't say he was particularly highly rated by City fans though because there were many times when he absolutely couldn't be bothered. One of those who hit a career peak quite early and then never bothered to keep up his physical conditioning, sending his career off a cliff.

But look at the goals he did score. Almost all of them come as a result of him just knowing where to be in the box when the ball drops to him. He did have that ability just to carry on his run and become a third striker and he used it fairly frequently (again, when he could be bothered).

None of that happened anything like enough for me. Most of the time he would take the ball on the half turn, take three touches to pivot himself backwards and the momentum was gone from our attack as he played it back to the full back. 9/10 David Silva passed forward to break the lines. 9/10 Nasri did the opposite.

Agree on Nasri. Bojinov was unlucky, as he was young when he had a bad long-term injury (Achilles?), he had a lot of potential and only became a journeyman after the injury, so who knows with him.

Said it before but adding more detail now, it's Robbie Fowler for me.

You hear ex-players and Scouser talking about how amazing he was like he was prime (proper) Ronaldo. He was with us at the age of 28 - not past it, well unless you're Fowler or George Best. But he couldn't run. He was mediocre at Leeds at the age of 26. I dont care if you're an amazing finisher (and based on his City career I'm not convinced anyway), but if you can't run you're not going to get that many chances.

A few (a lot) have mentioned McManaman. Agree he wasn't great for us, but I think some of the disappointment was because some people expected the player they saw at Liverpool. Madrid changed him as a player and he dictated play instead and didn't take players on. Totally different and probably not what we needed.

Yeah, you're right about Fowler. He was all about pace and his pace was gone. Leeds sold us a pup.
 
Edin Dzeko, despite scoring some big goals I never thought he fitted out style of play. Hadn't got the touch.

Eric Garcia - if anyone ever actually rated him. Pep and Barca did anyway.

I remember thinking that the amount of patience shown to him by Keegan was embarrassing and an insult to the other players sat on the bench who would have put some effort in if picked.

This is a cloudy memory but I'm sure I was told a the time that there was a big bust up at the time about the signing. Maybe it was David BErnstein who didn't want him and ended up resigning on the back of the bust up. If that is true the it explains Keegan's perseverence.
 
Has to be Grealish. Seen people say some properly dumb stuff about his supposed 'importance'. He was a competition winner in a side full of world class talent.
