Everton (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

Even if West Ham squeeze a draw against Arsenal it won't be enough. I've said it months ago. We aren't hammering anyone soon. 1 nil up tonight amd we just casually stroll about with the ball. And I can't see Burnley or Palace getting anything either.
We don't need to hammer anyone, goal difference is irrelevant now.

If Arse win their last 3 games it's done, lose 1 (hopefully at West Ham, as it might drag Spurs down as well) and we win all remaining it's ours by a point.

Defensively we fell apart in that second half and you can't defend like that and expect to win a title. Aapat from the last 10 mins the performance in the second half was very sloppy and we hardly threatened the Everton goal. Whilst today' s result is disappointing it's the dropped points to Forest, Chelsea and Spurs which have cost us.

Generally speaking I won't dig out individual players, but tonight I'll make an exception. I thought Guehi was absolutely diabolical. Putting his bizarre error aside, he looked unfit, confused, slow and clueless. It's really strange that when he joined us he slotted right in and looked every bit the part, but recently, particularly tonight he was terrible. On more than one occasion he looked to give up chasing an opponent down. I like the lad and am hoping that this is just a poor run of form, but that wasn't acceptable at this level tonight.

Also, what's with City players slipping over all the time??? numerous times again tonight with some terrible outcomes.

Garbage. We were the better team overall, a few mad moments, weird offside rule where you're offside then you're not, and the second was a foul on Khus in my opinion.
Thought that offside scenario had been changed after we benefited from a goal like that a few years ago.

Well, the next few days on here will be fun......

We've shit ourselves in that second half. Absolute heads gone moment, I feel in that 10/15 minutes spell that the lack of a true captain/leader in the centre of defence cost us. We all make mistakes so I won't dig Guehi out too much (although it was a shocker), but even before that there were warning signs as Everton had a couple of chances. A Dias/Gvardiol calms it down, gets their foot on the ball and communicates to the others. Khusanov and Guehi are good defenders (ok maybe not for a spell today) but not leaders.

Up the other end of the pitch, especially the first half, was like the semi final all over again. Plenty of the ball, possession stats through the roof, but what did Pickford actually have to do? Did he actually make any saves? Where was Nico taking control and smashing a thunderbastard through the packed defence?

We've made it very hard for ourselves now. We have to win out from here AND rely on a favour or two. But we know it's not over and as a club we have to keep going until it is. Let's hope the players have more about them than those fans who turned their backs on the team and walked out at 3-1.

Robbed by the officials

Lino kept his flag down despite him being offside it doesn’t allow him to become onside as he gained an advantage from his offside in the same phase of play
This was a subjective offside decision and Oliver should have gone to a review as it’s his decision alone to decide

No doubt that PGMOL will come up with some excuse and bullshit
They don't need to - Guehi was in complete control of the ball, which makes it a fresh phase of play.

For once, can't we just accept that that goal was OUR FAULT??

Was really disappointed in Cherki tonight, he’s alright to act the big one when we’re on top but goes missing when things are difficult.

Thought Semenyo was poor too and Nico G looked rusty as fuck.

Thought Phil made a difference when he came on and it should have happened sooner. Marmoush likewise should have happened much much sooner.

Doku shining light, what a player he is, really turned up.

Kova was a disaster for his 20 mins tonight, including being bullied for the 3rd. Don’t think Gonzalez was bad today. We should have done better first half - for example I counted 4 times Nunes got to the byline and couldn’t put a decent cross in.
But pleased with the comeback.
By the way, how be many different explanations have been given for non red cards on our players?

He’s absolutely dogshit. Can’t fathom how we have fans who think Kovacic has anything. Should never play for us again.

Oliver was shocking but I didn’t think it was a red card and the first Everton goal was the correct call. It was every 50/50 as the game went on that did my head in.
Pulling Nunes in the 1st half on where to take the throw-in then letting Everton walk up the touchline as they pleased when they had one

Disappointed of course, but they salvaged a draw, gotta give Doku credit.

Gotta hope Arsenal have a blip somewhere....

I mean there's one very obvious scenario you're missing where goal difference might be important again lol

Could feel their goals coming... Five minutes before they scored, it felt like we were playing for the 1:0, we'd lost all our energy going forward. Stupid errors for the goals, but we didn't have the instinct to go for the jugular.

Still, Doku - what a player. Our most consistent attacker all season.

Love your confidence fella. I wish I could tap into it. I think Arsenal have had their slip and they let us back in. I think this might just be their time and they only have to win 3 games to win the title. Hey ho.
Just stick with the belief.

I am very confused by it too. Maybe he is on social media and reading all the stuff people say about his first touch? He’s just not a low block player I guess.
Perhaps because at Bournemouth under Iraola they play with a bit of pace and move the ball about. Makes a huge difference!
