Hugo Viana | Director of Football

No, he’s not.

We’re rebuilding a young squad in order to compete. Every single great side has dominated, taken two years to rebuild after previous players got old and/or left and then come back challenging. The fact we’re winning trophies and still competing for the title puts us ahead of schedule.

He’s signed Donnarumma, Khusanov, Cherki, Semenyo, Guehi, who have all become first team players and done very well for us. For very good money from our perspective I might add.

He agreed with Txiki for us to sign Nico G who, when he’s given a run of games, has done a very good job for us. Similarly Marmoush who unfortunately doesn’t get a run of games but has proven he can score goals.

Then you’ve got Reijnders who’s been disappointing but not every one is going to work out.

Overall he’s done a decent job and needs to be shown some patience and a bit of time. Txiki got absolutely slated when he first came in because he was building towards Pep and people don’t offer patience in football.

Viana is building towards something. It might be a post Pep City that will suit another manager, possibly Maresca, but people need to chill the fuck out.

We’re looking at 2nd being our most likely league finish, still within a shout of winning it. We’ve got one cup in the bag and in another final.

This is a good season and better than I expected in August.
Fantastic post. Sick and tired of the usual knee jerk reaction from the usual melts when things don't go our way. They don't realise it yet but this is likely to remain the best decade in our history for a very long time to come.

A lot of the negative stuff is just frustration after a bad or indifferent result.
We do get a lot of moronic comments though, slating this player and that because they didn't have their best game or they made a mistake.

It's really frustrating to see the disrespect, for a team that nobody expected to really do anything significant this season but have one trophy in the bank, another final to come and whether they want to believe it or not, are STILL in a title race and virtually guaranteed to finish at least second.

That's some going for a team that wasn't exepcted to win anything. Sometimes seems like they won't be happy until they get a team of robots that can't do anything wrong.

People need to get a grip. There will have only been 10 better seasons in the club’s history than this one if we go on to beat Chelsea and come 2nd.

Not sure about the “expected to do nothing” side of things we must have been favourites or marginally 2nd favourites at the beginning of the season? I’m really happy with the direction the squad is going, should be exciting times ahead. Mistakes are allowed, and they have to be made and warn like a badge, else you are almost definitely playing it too safe.

Roll on next season, a fully fit version of the current squad was already the best in the league and we’ll be stronger and more physical next year. Excited to Watch NoR continue to develop, Khus gain even more confidence and see that he belongs, Donna to show more of why he’s the worlds best and Cherki to boil more piss.

Viana doing a top job so far - hopefully Tijani R gets his figure out, solid world cup and comes back cock a hoop.

2 posts in a day after 40 odd in 16 years. You are on a roll pal!

I think the dippers were favourites, Arsenal 2nd and us 3rd if I remember correctly.

In the last couple of seasons we've seen Ederson, Walker, Akanji, Gundo, De Bruyne, Grealish, Alvarez leave with Bernardo and Stones also going this summer. We've also seen Rodri miss a lot of football, Dias/Gvardiol/Ake be injured regularly and Foden lose form significantly.

Some of the players that have come in haven't instantly delivered, but that's our expectation and not the clubs. Those players listed took time to settle and the same needs to be afforded to the new players.

There are questions over many players, but there's a long list of recent signings clearly good enough to form the core of our squad for a number of years and we will have learnt our lesson and won't sit back and do nothing this summer. Another 4-5 players will come in and combined with the platform from this campaign will help us make a further step forwards.

If we can go and win the FA Cup then it's been a fantastic season and something strong to build from. The league isn't completely dead yet, and we need to focus on winning our remaining games to at least make Arsenal work for it and to have a positive finish to this campaign.

Amen! If we had won last night and Cherki had assisted Semenyo for the winner this thread would not be active and many fans just expect us to sign the likes of player through the rules we cant and them particular players may just not want to join us?
Some people just like to moan. It will be great season if we win the FA Cup in a transition period. We have a great squad that will be improved in the summer again.

Not sure what the odds were but it was the general perception Liverpool would run away with it, Arsenal were 2nd favourites and us probably 3rd. Most pundits had us 3rd or even 4th.

Thanks for wasting City resources on average players

For context:

Txiki after the treble:
  • Gvardiol
  • Nunes
  • Doku
  • Mateo Kovacic
  • Echeverri
  • Savinho
  • Gundogan
  • Marmoush
  • Gonzales
Gvardiol and Doku stand out. Nunes has been made into a very good fullback but that is not why we bought him. Marmoush panic bought in a purple patch, although he did help to get us top 4. Nico G was a more than capable Rodri stand in for the first half of the season imo.

Vianna:

  • Donnaruma
  • Semenyo
  • Guehi
  • Khusanov
  • Trafford
  • Cherki
  • Ait Nouri
  • Reinjders
  • Vitor Reis

Which of those signings of Viannas do you find to be a waste of money.

I don’t think you can argue with Donna, Cherki, Khus, Trafford, Semenyo and Guehi personally. Ait Nouri and Reinjders perhaps but let’s see. Vitor one for the future.

Needs to ID some midfielders of the highest quality.
I think 2 or 3 midfielders. Anderson and a couple more. Somebody more in the mould of a Bernardo, Vitinha etc but they’ll probably have to be an up and comer.

Goalkeeper to replace Trafford.

Right back to rotate with Nunes.

I think we’ll likely see Rico Lewis, Marmoush and Reinjders leave in addition to Stones, Ake and Bernardo but that could change depending on whether Pep stays or not, they might try their arm with a new manager.

If Marmoush does go, the Kroupi links makes sense.

Been watching him since the links emerged. He's destined for better things. Plenty of energy and good passer of the ball who likes to get forward. Looks good all round. Could do with another as well, not sure who, open to suggestions though lol.
