Everton (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

Yep we was poor but a team who bottles it don’t come back from 3-1 down away at a club like Everton to get a point a team who bottles it is a team that were 2 up against that wolves team and ended up drawing..
When Arsenal win the league. It will be us that has bottled it.

So as soon as Guehi turns to play the ball before he even touches it it’s another faze? So what faze is Barry in? Because at that moment he is ofside still and interfering putting pressure on Guehi to make a decision! And how quickly the people in var the fourth official confirmed it was a different faze it’s a goal without even looking at what the Everton player was doing was complete one eyed bias from the officials! I guarantee if that was Arsenal they’d be looking at it a lot longer or var wouldn’t of even got involved
Did VAR evening look at it? All I saw was the ref talking to the lino face to face, which is actually very unusual

I’ve read different reports of when the lino flagged. If he did it straight away then it should have stopped play.

He did it after the goal! My problem is I’ve seen at Anfield and at the rags the flag going up straight away! I’ve even seen one linemen putting Flag straight up for one team then the other let it go!

PGMOL need to come out and tell us where is this auto offsides gone when European football have it! All because they didn’t want that system and they think they can make money out of an another company developing it! Now where the fuck is it!

Would have loved to have been there last night. Most blues brilliant… saw lots leaving on Tele
when the 3rd went in, saw lots do a 180 when Haaland got us back in it, saw a young lad tell the old guard what he thought - N’d to F off like they planned. He’s right. Loved it.

The team need the support, pressure is on, legs are heavy, back the lads for their effort not just the attainment. They deserve better than the spoilt wet wipes some people become when it doesnt go their way.

The law is (to paraphrase) if the defender regains comfortable control of the ball unchallenged then a new phase of play starts. Unfortunately Guehi fucked up, it is what it is
But as we have seen on many occasions if a player in an offside position moves towards the ball as in this case he is judged to be active. If Barry had run towards Donna and not towards the ball then I might agree.

Jeremy Doku....jesus loves you!!!! Fantastic finishes for both goals.

Happy with the draw in the end....it's not over yet. 3 great goals last night.... our defence needs to sharpen up, we let ourselves down at times. Not mad at the players but we all know we can do much better.

The race isn't over, Gunners have 2 away London Derby s to contend with. Still a few turns in the sqeeky bum run in.

When Arsenal win the league. It will be us that has bottled it.

A team that constantly win leagues don’t win it in a transition is not bottling it! A team that KEEPs failing are called bottling it when you continually do it! The first season Arsenal were in contention bottling wasn’t being mentioned everywhere like now! If you don’t see the difference well that you!

And were he to emulate Onana by charging out, missing the ball and thumping an attacker in the ear, we wouldn't get the same outcome that the Rags got versus Wolves. I agree he should be more dominant at set pieces. Not many attackers would relish a man mountain making their way towards them but I don't trust refs Guardiola was right when he pointed out the record we hold of giving oppo goalies free kicks in stark contrast to our goalie being fouled.
I get it mate, but he HAS to be stronger. Literally nothing happened to him last night, there's no reason for him not to get closer to that ball and then complain afterwards, what was he complaining about?! He's so fucking big he can actually get his hand on the ball before he even hits anyone, use your frame and make the ball yours. It's happened on multiple occasions this season, gives you zero confidence.

As for the game, it's been our problem for 2 seasons at least. We can't take our chances, even Semenyo who was bagging every game has turned useless in front of goal. Give the opposition a sniff and they'll take it, no team in the PL is a mug.

Got in at 2315hrs. Have to say firstly what a fantastic stadium.
Onto the game. Story of our season for me. Dominate a team for long periods to only get 1 goal. 20 mins of chaos second half cost us but it is what it is. Missed Rodris' calming influence last night I felt. We got caught up in the chaos and atmosphere which never tends to bode well for us.

I have no complaints. It's looking like Arsenals league now. Only thing that gives me any hope is the fact that West Ham pretty much know it is shit or bust on Sunday however I expect an Arsenal win.
Everton fans feeling hard done by regarding Olivers performance!!! I dont care what anyone says, If Keane gets a red for that "wreckless, out of control, endangering an opponent" tackle then the game is completeley different depsite our 2nd half implosion.. We are reffed differently (see numerous decisions this season). Nobody will ever now convince me any differently that VAR is used and will be used to manipulate results, balance of games.
That was a straight red card last night-FACT. Subjective or not it fell within the red card guidelines.

Oh well onto the Brentford.

Note-Been Nunes' biggest advocate but wow do we need a right back.

Someone needs to explain this offside law to me. First picture Barry is clearly offside as the ball is played up to him

Second picture shows the player moving towards the ball so surely active from an offside position, no clear chance of a goal at this stage so why hasn't the liner put his flag up?

Whilst I can see what you're saying about any possible offside arguement there, we can all clearly see on the bottom photo who is in possession of the ball .. it's Guehi, a player who needed to forget who else was lurking around him, take full responsibility, and competently deal with the situation HIMSELF, before any Everton player had the chance to ..... look at him on that photo, if he hears no referees whistle to stop play, all he has to do is poke the f'kin ball for a throw in, or corner ... or hoof it into row Z !!

Instead he inexplicably tries to direct back to Donnarumma, even though an Everton player is fast closing in on his left shoulder, and he makes a complete and utter hash of it .... it really was a simple decision to make, yet instead his indecisiveness and inability to play even a simple pass cost us the goal that allowed Everton back into a game that we desperately needed to win.

But we can analyse it until we're blue in the face, the incident and game has gone now .... all we can do now is try to beat Brentford and just hope for the best.

Pretty embarrassing that (potentially) the worst player in the league scored two goals against us

Exactly, we’ve done it before and the team need backing from the faithful. Foden’s got his deal, like someone said get him starting for Brentford and who knows. It would be a travesty if Arsenal were given this trophy with their style of football is a disgrace.

Thats whats puzzling me if we dont play the ball what happens.
I know he did but hes fooking offside

The game should have been won by half time.
We had enough chances finish them off, allowing them to cause chaos in the second half was our own undoing, we lost all discipline and became a shambles.

Yep, don't disagree with that.

VAR check all goals but don't announce anything if there's nothing to announce or if it's resolved quickly.
Different phase, Guehi had control and made a bad pass, goal, that's it, end of story.
Assistants have been told not to flag early, especially when the offside player doesn't receive the ball.
It's a stupid interpretation as the Everton player might not have been in a position to benefit from Guehi's bad pass had he not been so far up the pitch (and therefore offside) in the first place, but it was clearly a different phase once we had control of the ball.
I was more annoyed about the lack of a red card in the first half.

I saw Doku, Semenyo and Guehi praying coming out onto the pitch. Doku has obviously got a better connection than the other two!

People always talk about "low block" but the fair we move up the pitch so slowly and side to side means teams are naturally going to have time to get men back. Go more direct sometimes and they can't do that.
Exactly this - what are the opposition supposed to do, stay on the hallway line and watch us creep towards their area?

'low block' is just a modern phrase describing a situation that has been around since football began.

They weren't using a 'low block' for Erling's goal, were they? Now what could possibly be the reason for that?

i don't think we have bottled anything, we have always been playing catch up, we are not the finished article but we have won one trophy and in the fa cup final it's not all doom and gloom. Rodri is such a huge player for us, my heart sank when he was not involved, we just got bullied for 20 minutes and lost control, huge respect for the players for coming back. The fixture calendar is shambolic and makes a mockery of the integrity of the league, so many weekends with no games, then 3 games shoe horned in to ensure all the games are played, but now both sides will be playing against weakened sides, it's piss poor in my opinion. Lets keep Arsenal honest and just try and win at the weekend.
