Fear of Flying

Hate every second. All sorts of horrific thoughts go through my head when up in the air. It’s a horrible ordeal.
Personally, I don’t like the thought of medication or alcohol to get through a flight - better to be fully alert incase of an incident!
Bollocks to that, if I'm going to be in a plane that crashes, I'd rather be off my head so I could relax and enjoy it.

A guy goes to a theatrical agent and says "Can you represent me"
Agent says "what do you do" ?
Man says "Bird Impressions"
Agent says "get outta here impressionists are 10 a penny"
So he flew out the window.

Weird one this. Flown once or twice a year ever since I was a kid and used to love it up until maybe 4 years ago.
Went on a long haul flight with an ex and she was utterly petrified and I think part of her stress eventually passed over to me.
Whilst I still love the adrenaline of take off and landing, those moments just before it bother me more than they ever did before and I feel acutely more aware of my own mortality despite knowing it's the safest way to travel and actually enjoying it to an extent.

Also strangely enough watching all the Nat Geo Aircraft Investigation shows actually made me feel even safer seeing all the changes they make off the back of it and how rare and freak some of the accidents are

I will be flying after almost 3 years and I am dreading it again. Especially right now in the US, there have been so many reports of near collisions and ATC being understaffed and it’s making my anxiety worse. My doctor have given me anxiety meds but still its on my mind. Also seeing so many pilot suicides doesn’t help either.

You only ever read reports of things like this.

The other 37 million uneventful flights a year don’t make the news!

Going on 63 and never been on a aircraft !
Lucky man!

I am terrified of flying these days (didn't use to be and no idea how it started) and have managed to avoid it for many years but in October I have to face a 10-hour flight. I'm absolutely bricking it with 5 months still to go. I've no idea what I'll be like on the day.

Try and get some diazepam from somewhere (Doctors ideally!) Sorts you out that one!

The U.S. has the safest airspace in the world, and the supposed ATC shortage is only brought up when someone makes a mistake…do they blame staffing.

I have NEVER given it a second thought and while the system can get strained during periods of bad weather, it ALL boils down to individuals doing what they have been trained to do…just like engineers, doctors, nurses, teachers, dentists, etc… These are all professionals who have zero desire to not to a great job!

Could your co-pilot do a bit of the flying for you?

Are you ever worried about your pilot’s intentions? The China Eastern airlines flight being a suicide is scary.

I’ll never fly again ever. I’ll never drive as far as Cornwall again. From Middleton to the lakes is my limit.
