Arsenal Thread | 2025/26

It is a sad state of affairs that the fates of two teams are decided on a VAR decision that is inconclusive. The official purpose of VAR as stated by the Premier League on its website is…

In the Premier League, there will be a high bar for VAR intervention on subjective decisions.

The decision of the referee, known as the “Referee’s Call”, will stand unless, in the opinion of the VAR, based upon the evidence readily available, that call is a clear-and-obvious error.

If a clear-and-obvious error is identified by the VAR, for subjective decisions, after checking the up winnings attacking possession phase (APP) for any clear infringements by the attacking team, the VAR will advise the on-pitch referees to use the pitchside monitors (the Referee Review Area (RRA)) to review the incident and make a final decision.

This momentous VAR decision was not a clear and obvious error in my opinion.
I think the clear and obvious error PGMOL were thinking of in their eyes yesterday was that City might end up winning the league again and ruining a full season’s work from their Officials

Might be true that its “in our own hands” but when the dubious decisions of the PiGMOL officials has influenced the outcome of games beyond the team’s control and there has been lots this season, probably amounting to -9 points if not more The decision not to dismiss Gabriel meant he has played and influenced the outcome, definitely yesterday, of games

Like Pep said to Graham Scott when he was the fourth official at the Brighton game when we secured the league
"We are champions now and there is nothing you can do about it"
Good point, worth remembering Gabriel shouldn't have been anywhere near yesterday.

Well it was clear and obvious to me what the VAR would be doing. Every man and his dog in our house knew what would be happening. All fouls committed before the ball got near Raya would be dismissed including the Rice, Trossard and Gabriel ones to pick on an arm of Pablo across Raya which happened because of a foul by Trossard. Enjoy your title win Le Arse but remember it is because PYGMOL backed you and refused to penalise your anti football, fouling, timewasting and gamesmanship. The modern day Leeds.

Arsenal have benefited from referees mostly turning a blind eye to the dark arts at set pieces. I don't think the PMGOL will be able to sustain the approach they have taken this season going into next season. So, Arsenal will find it more difficult to win matches next season unless they change their approach and focus on scoring goals from open play.

Well I do agree with that first part. They haven't been consistent in that matter all season. We know too well after all. I think it was the away leg of the league cup semi up at st james. Too all fucking night to find a supposedly 'clear and obvious' error.
Actually they have been consistent all season before yesterday. The bar has been consistently high in terms of on field decisions being overturned. There is no end of examples of the review panel saying the decision should have been X but the error was not sufficiently clear and obvious to be overturned. The Gabriel non red card for the headbutt on Haaland is a case in point.

All of a sudden the rule that the on field decision will stand unless it was a clear and obvious error has been removed and VAR spends 5 minutes looking at 4 seconds of play.

When did “take as long as you need to get it right” become the test?

In fairness we should recognise the incredible achievements of this Arsenal side in what will now most likely be a Premier League winning season for them.

A whole season and not a single penalty conceded or red card given against them.

As incredible as the season Fat Boy never got booked oh and the last time rags won the PL
Strange but true

They found the pulled shirt on Raya that is enough to make it a foul! What I want to know is where has the clip come from if it is skys own feed it has been orchestrated by Neville and the broadcast to present that as evidence! When other var incidents never get that luxury! Now if that video feed was of that shirt pull was in the first view or two fine I take it back! But looks dodgy to me..

Big Erl's honesty has ultimately gone against him and the team. If he had gone down holding his head Gabriel would've copped a 3 game ban.

We are bigger and better than that though, I still think there could be one last twist on the final day to come.

Happy for Mikel? Were you happy for him when he was harbouring Thomas Partey last season and saying he was glad he scored a goal cause he’s been going through a tough time away from the field.
Arteta was working at City from 2016-2018 during the period that some of the 115 charges relate to. So if City are found guilty then he is guilty by association as it obviously helped his application to secure the job to have a City's success highlighted on his CV.

The PL won't care, assuming CarWreck gets the rags off to an ok start that puts them into contention, they'll be too busy facilitating them to worry about arsenal.

Leeds played better football.
