FA Youth Cup winners: 2-1 win v rags, match thread / Thurs 14th May 2026

Just on the train down to London, I was at the game last night which was my first academy game in years, I thought it was a pretty even match up between the sides. The less said about the fans the better.

I’ll be honest I was a little underwhelmed by some of the play from both teams, it seemed the typical overly cautious possession based stuff a lot of the time, wingers not taking their man on and instead turning and playing it backwards etc, lots of foot on the ball and slowing things down rather than taking a risk. That’s the modern game for you. Not too many shots on goal, lots of trying to walk it in in the box.

Other than McAidoo who grew stronger and stronger in the game and whose ability is clear to see, I didn’t think there were any real standout performances. Just lots of solid performances from both teams.

I was a little underwhelmed by Reigan Heskey knowing how good he can be, I don’t know if he was knackered in the second half when he was playing on the side of the pitch near me or carrying a knock, but he seemed to drift in and out (I remember when he made his first team debut he looked more dangerous, running at his fullback more), but he had a bit of quality to get the winner.

Superb celebration from Teddie Lamb for the winner, he was a real workhorse and could/should have finished a couple of his chances. Only 16, he looks a real powerhouse.

I thought the Samba brothers obviously showed good ability but seemed to both really lack a bit of pace and nimbleness / quick feet (after all their dad was a 6’4” man mountain and not exactly Ronaldinho), that to me looked like it would hold them back at first team level in the future. That’s just having seen them for the first time last night.

All in all an enjoyable night, thank fuck for the late winner as it was far too cold for extra time.

Raggies p1ssed off at everything to do with the game? Could it be they lost? No, Shirley not poor losers? Good, they have always been and always will be SCUM of the earth.

You'd think he'd show a bit of respect for the club that nurtured and supported his boys until he took them back to his own shit club.
Probably annoyed those boys aren’t good enough.

He kept referring to us as “Man City” and them as the usual “Manchesunited” and he wants to talk about respect.

The entitlement of that club is unparalleled.

Entitlement and arrogance is at the core of that rancid club so dealing with anything less than being hyped and worshipped is considered an offence.

The pathetic reaction from rag staff is no surprise at all, as they cannot accept defeat with dignity, and their moron supporters there displayed exactly what the core of their supporters really are.

Tbh, it was a poor game. We played a possession tactic which was boring and negative and failed to take several chances. But we scored when we had to and the rags were downed, so well done boys.
I would not say it was a poor game although our lads have certainly played better this season. City maintained a good team shape and dominated possession in the second half. If some of the earlier chances had been taken it could have been more comfortable but the way in which we built the pressure in the ten minutes or so before the winner was great and showed faith in the system.
I think quite a few of our team will have professional careers at a decent level.

Just bought the MEN this morning. No report of the game. The daily mirror has a short paragraph. You know full well if the rags had won there would be a massive report and massive headlines about it. Just prior to the game a black guy presenter was giving his opinion on players to look out for. He mentioned 5, 3 from United and 2 from City. Our most dangerous players McAidoo, Heskey and Floyd Samba weren't mentioned. It was Teddy Lamb and Leke Drake (good centre half though he is). It reminded me many years ago in the lead up to the U17 W.orld Cup when a so called expert was picking out players to look out for. It wasn't Foden (who anybody who followed youth football knew was England's stand out player at that level). No, it was a rag player Angel Gomes, who the guy said his name would be on everybody's lips by the end of the tournament. Tho only player everybody was talking about was Philip Walter Foden. I think Gomes is playing for some on crap French team at the moment.

Fletcher's sad chops was absolute gold .... he'll only ever be remembered for the Rags consolation in the 1-6 massacre that ultimately cost them the title and changed history as we know it.

I tell you what would be funny as fcuk if that JJ Gabriel eventually signed for us?

Fletcher's complaint seems to be that City "over celebrated" by reading out the names of our players and their coaches and this somehow upset the delicate rag players. If they cannot cope with that they have no chance of making it in the professional game. It smacks of being a bad loser - maybe he should have got them to do better during the game? It was a far more one sided than the 2-1 scoreline suggest.
Anyway fuck the whining rags - our lads and coaches played a great campaign, dug in to comeback where needed, and are deserved winners.

Yeah the rag fans were so class that at full time when the players went over to clap the away fans 95% had already fucked off
You weren't under the impression that they were to support their youngsters surely ? It was simply a chance for the fcum idiots from the 80's/90's to sing anti City songs live on national TV (well the Iplayer app).

To make it sweeter, it sounds like the people in charge of their youngsters were as bad, if not worse, than the people they sold tickets to.

That’s a great point about mental weakness. If Fletcher gets so upset about our players’ over celebrating he will never make the grade. It shows a total lack of what is required in an elite manager. A professional operator would have kept quiet and used the moment to motivate his players for next season.
