Think he deserves his own thread.
“IF” he takes over i am really confident and i think he’ll surprise a lot of people.

“Maresca, who won the Club World Cup and Conference League while securing Champions League qualification during his only full season at Stamford Bridge.

He worked directly under Guardiola during City's treble-winning 2022-23 campaign and played a key role in the club's academy prior to joining the first team.

He left City in 2023 to manage Leicester, whom he guided to promotion to the Premier League in his only season”

He’s a winner
He know’s the club inside out
Let’s fucking have it!
We’ll win the Treble next season!!!!

Wasn't there a thread started yesterday on this that was rightly deleted. One, he's not confirmed, two, there is already another thread about the unconfirmed rumours on him and also Pep leaving

I'm strangely happy with this appointment. It wouldn't feel right for City just to parachute in the latest big name and flavour of the month. The club the majority of the big decisions right and I'm perfectly happy to take this guy at face value and judge him by what I see.
Spot on.

A big part of the treble winning outfit and that in itself means he is rightly a big part of our best ever season. That must be a hugely proud moment for him and gives him a direct affinity to the club. He also has his youth team ties and is in the unenvyable position of following our greatest ever manager and all the scrutiny and comparisons that will undoubtedly come. Fair play to him believing in himself and i wish him all best. Another roller coaster ride awaits. Lets see where it takes us. Its gonna be fun.

You were never going to be able to match up to Guardiola with his replacement. The most influential manager of the last 20 years doesn't exactly have an understudy.

Maresca hasn't managed at a club with the support network he will have here (Chelseas ownership are fucking idiots) so he will get the opportunity to do things his way and I'm willing to wait and see.

Whoever it was after Pep, whether its Maresca, Kompany, Tony Pulis, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt.

I have no problem with this appointment. Has clearly impressed the club as no2 already so they know he fits the culture and had the temperament.

every other bigger name is unavailable (enrique being probably a good fit to again follow Pep at a club). other guys like Kompany have done well at bayern but no guarantee of being successful here. same also for managers at mid/lower level clubs like Iraola - look what happened to Potter and Amorim and guys like this.

the only other name to throw out is Pochetino as having the CV and maybe the availability post world cup.

Maresca was my all accounts relatively successful at Chelsea and was well liked there. fell out with the dickheads running the club about their scattergun recruitment.

Maresca is clearly committed to City having waited many months for the gig. lets support the guy and he looks just like Pep as a bonus

In a strange way I'm looking forward to it, think it's a very City appointment, and as the best run club that can only be a good thing.

Same boat. I'd rather we were able to convince Pep to give us 10 more years but in lieu of that, the only manager out there I'd want is Enrique, and I'd still have to weigh that against the broader philosophy of promoting from within (it's a bit half and half here with Maresca but closer than 99% of other managers). As you say, the club gets the majority of these calls right and it seems like this one has been in the works for a long time, which tells me it's going to be at the very least not without solid justification.

It's a shame for Maresca that he has to follow the greatest to ever do it but someone has to, and the club was never going to deliberately appoint someone shit to take that initial heat. If Maresca backs himself to continue where Pep left off that's good enough for me.

“Enzo helped me a lot. A lot, a lot. Especially in the first season.”
— Pep on how important Maresca was within Manchester City’s coaching staff.
“He is an incredible person, an incredible manager.”
— Guardiola after Maresca left City for Leicester.
“I had the feeling he would come back sooner or later.”
— Pep when Maresca returned to City as assistant manager in 2022.
“He knows exactly the way we want to play.”
— Guardiola on Maresca’s tactical understanding and football philosophy.
“The success we had, he was massively involved.”
— Pep on City’s treble-winning 2022–23 season.
“I’m happy for him because he deserves it.”
— Guardiola after Leicester secured promotion under Maresca.
“He’s one of the most talented young managers.”
— Pep on Maresca’s managerial potential.
“When he went to Leicester I said to Txiki: ‘We are going to miss him a lot.’”
— Guardiola on how important Maresca was behind the scenes at City.
“He has charisma, knowledge, presence — all the things a top manager needs.”
— Guardiola on why he believed Maresca would succeed as a head coach.
“People don’t realise how important assistants can be.”
— said while praising both Maresca and Juanma Lillo for their influence on City’s style of play.

He doesn't know the club "inside out" hahaha A lot has changed since he left. He was barely here 2 years and only worked with the first team for one season

If not Maresca who else is there? There are no obvious alternatives that I can think of. It certainly isn't an exciting appointment, but he does know both the club and English football. Maybe excitement isn't everything?

Exciting is for idiots like Chelsea. This is a well calculated and professional appointment of a man Pep has clearly singled out and almost groomed for the job.

I don’t want exciting. I want what’s happened. It feels solid.
