Enzo Maresca

In what way does he know the players though?
Well he was assistant manager during the treble season so he'll know our most experienced players very well.

Dias, Rodri, Foden, Haaland will make up the core of our leadership group next year and he's worked with them all.

I'm looking forward to the change, he'll hit the ground running he knows the players and he has served some sort of apprenticeship.
Was thinking about which players he will have worked with from his time here as EDS coach and first team coach.

Nico O’Reilly will have been coached by him in the U18s and Dias Lewis Rodri Foden and Haaland (if Rodri is still here) were here when he was with the first team.

Good that he’s not going to be an unknown to them all, and most of them are the core captain group.

I suspect he might have had a say in some of the newer players if this has been planned for a while too.

Never really looked that closely at Maresca so did a search and found this, interesting and could see players like Cherki,Nunes, flourishing in the Palmer, Cucurella roles and maybe Trafford too might reconsider staying. The whole suqad though seems very well suited to his tactics.

can see Pep principle there

He was part of our back room staff and was part of the treble winning team.
But the vast majority of that team is gone.

Outside of Rodri, Dias, Haaland and Foden. Ake I'd imagine may leave.

I don't think it's noteworthy

I wonder were this leaves Kolo & Lijnders, I like that they are passionate on the bench. Hopefully they may still have a place at City

He'll know the way City work more than most, he was here in 2023 not 1993.

I get the feeling that he's more of a caretaker appointment than the long term answer. I'm a bit underwhelmed but completely trust the club they've done their homework.

I can imagine Maresca being a safe pair of hands and knows the systems. He's not likely to disrupt anything.

Maybe when the next man they want is available, we go in hard for him? I would imagine that's either the lad at PSG or Vinnie?
Pep coming back?

The more I look at this appointment the more it appeals to me because for one he is part of our greatest ever achievement and even back then j would imagine he was earmarked to be in line for the big seat and we are run like a well oiled machine so this appointment will have been scrutinised Ali the way to the top and even pep has signed off on it . We could have gone for a big name big ego manager but that’s the United and Chelsea way and we have basically gone in house . Sad to see pep go but we need to move on and tbh pep hasn’t been the same for 2 seasons now . Exciting times ahead .

I think "knowing the club" and all that kinda "DNA" talk about managers is nonsense personally.

I don't dislike the hire, but I don't love it. I think it's just, yeah, a hire.

You might be right I have no way of calling your opinion a false one, all I am saying is that he knows his way around and we should give him every chance. We'll soon find out if we are as well run as people say we are.

If we implode like united did we'll know we have had smoke blown up our arses.

I mean there's a difference between the likes of Solskjaer and Carrick getting the job at the rags because they 'know the club' and Maresca getting the City job in part because he's worked in a senior coaching role and therefore is known and trusted by the higher ups.

But again, there's been turnover within the club at all levels since he was here, not just the playing squad.

Obviously the club want him because they know and have seen him up close but I just fear it's a myopic view to take, perhaps even "blinkered"

But sure we'll see, it's clearly going to happen so let's crack on together

I imagine Barcelona fans were sceptical when Guardiola was initially given the job instead of a high profile candidate. This is arguably our equivalent, promoting someone you trust from within (kinda) rather than looking to just bring in the biggest name.

That's my straw clutching anyway.

I am happy with the appointment as he knows the club and won't change the way we play. Devastated about Pep and Maresca will be judged harshly against the best (Pep).I just hope we give him time.
