Enzo Maresca

Assuming pep does go and is replaced by Maresca - what is the barometer of success ?

Personally I’d take any trophy and CL place as a success right now.., and build from there

Honestly believe if pep had one more season we’d walk the league next year - this season has been piss poor - city of old would have wrapped it up by March

City replacing Pep with Maresca feels like a club trying to copy its own homework and hoping nobody notices.
Pep is one of the greatest managers football has ever seen. You don’t replace that with a guy who couldn’t even keep control of Chavski for a full project cycle. Maresca talks the same positional football language, but that doesn’t mean he has the aura, adaptability, or elite-level management to handle a dressing room full of serial winners. Chavski fans were already questioning his rigidity, slow build-up, and inability to change games when things went wrong. Now we are supposed to believe he can succeed the most demanding manager in modern football? That’s not succession planning that’s wishful thinking.
The biggest concern is that Maresca looks like a system coach who only works when everything is perfectly structured around him. Guardiola earned authority through years of winning at Barcelona, Bayern, and with us. Maresca hasn’t earned that respect yet. One bad run and the comparisons to Pep will become unbearable.
And paying compensation to Chavski for a manager they were happy to lose just makes the whole thing look even stranger for me. Feels less like we are choosing the best coach available and more like we are desperately trying to preserve the Guardiola style without Guardiola himself. History usually shows that never works imo.
Have to admit I share your concerns.
I was hoping to move away from the slow build up style and move to a playing style more attacking and faster.
Maresca feels like more of the same.
But hey-ho we have to get behind whoever it is.

The shakeup will probably be bigger than people think. Most of the new signings are good fit Maresca signings, Pep has been playing for the last year with a "Maresca squad" but big questions over where some of our players fit and if Chelsea is any indication he won't be shy about letting them know.

I couldn't care about his tactics

I just he have the personality to choose whats best for the team instead of trying to please & keep his relationship with the old guard
Didn’t take you long to start slagging Pep off!
Looking forward to more of your shitty line ups next season …..not!

While I agree with your concerns but the issue who is currently available to take over?. Whomever is taking over from Pep has a thankless task and the best are really settled at their clubs and have either extended their contracts or maybe is planning on leaving in 12 months time.

For those cock ends who have already written off a manager who has yet to be even announced, that's even if he's ever announced. Take a look at some actual interviews (like below) with him to understand his mindset and tactical principles before brain farting on here.

Which blues posting on a City discussion forum are you referring to as "cock ends" ?

Is it just the ones who don't agree with you ?

Hope I’m wrong but Maresca very much feels like when David Moyes took over Fergie.
Moyes had a totally different style than Fergie and took over a squad that needed a massive overhaul. Marescas style is clearly based on what he's learnt from working with Pep and we've got a great spine to the team where a few right signings will improve a team that has just won 2 trophies, and I'm pretty sure we'll back Maeresca in the transfer market a lot more than UTD did with Moyes.

I do think there's a case for getting him in and working with Pep next year on a transition
My thinking is that firstly he's not coming into a crisis where he has to rip everything up the previous boss did and second otherwise we are just in the same position of losing Pep in 12 months.
I'd prefer to start the handover now fwiw.

Other clubs fans are laughing at us for replacing Pep with Maresca, hopefully he proves them all wrong and is successful with us

The ones who are making emotional, judgemental, factless based assessments of someone who hasn't even been announced.
