EFL Playoffs time

By excluding them from the play offs and awarding the game to Middlesbrough they have awarded the team that was sinned against
Would suggest that this is where the punishment should end and will be reduced at the appeal, its likely that an appeal was anticipated and the punished set accordingly

However, we are rewarding a team that lost over two legs on the pitch. Does a man taking a video with his iPhone seriously make such an impact to their result?

They didn’t even go to penalties which are likely the area where most of the advantage comes from.

Imagine missing out on a potential 200+ million quid for sending some bellend to record a team putting out some cones and playing some five a side.

Harsh decision in my eyes, but absolutely daft by The Saints to give a green light to this.
southampton shouldve sacked manager as soon as rumbled and then i think punishment wouldve been more lenient

After they got caught spying against Derby this happened:
In an extraordinary news conference in the week after Leeds' match against Derby, Bielsa said he "observed all the rivals we played against and watched the training sessions of all opponents".

Don't see how that's really any different.

£200k fine versus kicked out of the playoffs. Not really equal in my opinion.

The rule came in after Leeds got caught out there was nothing in place at the time hence the fine ...............Southampton knew what was in place and still went against it.

So what should happen a fine a few points off and the cheating team sails of into the sunset to earn £200 million while teams that have played the game within the law get nothing sod that.

Well done to the EFL in going full out and handing out the worst punishment ever

If that was the case why send him in the first place ?????
Surly if there no advantage to be gained you wouldnt run te risk of doing it would you ...........and if has happened before which it has then they must have gained something from it or whats the point in doing it ???

But the rules were then brought in after the Leeds incident to prevent it happening.
You can't punish a club heavily when there are no rules in place to begin with. Leeds didn't break any rules but clearly was seen as "bad sportsmanship". So the rules were brought in and broken. The Saints are sinners.

I wouldn’t expect them to be booted out and certainly wouldn’t want us to be gifted a trophy we didn’t win on the pitch.

The advantage gained here is minimal. I’m not saying it’s right, but to pretend that this somehow completely changed the game and gave Southampton an insurmountable advantage is bollocks.

Southampton should be punished but in the form of a heavy fine or a points deduction next season, not by getting removed from the play-offs. If the EFL really insists on removing them then at least just give Hull the bye in the final. Reinstating a losing team is a farce
If spying on a team wasn't helping a team win a game then why do it?, the argument makes no sense.

Some people have no logic or just post from the hip with no thought.

If you can’t see the nuance between the varying degrees of advantage that something can bring about then I can’t help you.

Re-read my posts and you will see that at no point did I deny that spying would’ve given Southampton a sporting advantage. What I am saying is that the sporting advantage is very minimal and pretending otherwise is naïve at best.

My point is that the punishment is completely disproportionate to the harm that was done.

“Sinned against” lol

Any advantage gained from this would’ve been very minimal.

A losing team is being given a second bite of the cherry after being beaten on the pitch

I don’t think anyone is saying no advantage was gained. It’s a question of proportionality. The punishment does not reflect the minimal advantage gained

Obviously the guilty party think it impacts results, which is why they have been spying on teams

You cannot prove whether it did or didn't impact the result on the day but you can prove the guilty party spied because they hoped it would....

For any blues feeling a bit glum this morning, reading the relevant thread on their fans’ forum might cheer you up slightly - particularly given their fans’ alleged behaviour after the cup semi-final.

Expulsion happens at page 139.

Be fair to say Sports Republic not too popular with their fans!!

Bullying allegations too? All seems like a bit of a shit show that's about to unravel.

Glum after a domestic cup double? Not a chance.

That forum is funny though

We're being encouraged at work to incorporate AI into our work practices. Seeing as my work practices include mooching about on BM, here's this morning's effort. My Saints colleagues are definitely knives out for Eckert.

Why can’t Hull be given a bye into the PL instead of Middlesbrough getting a second chance
Because Wembley and the Football League would miss out on shed loads of money.
There are bigger things than sensible suggestions like yours.
Will nobody think of the tv rights and sponsors ?

They came through by 1 goal in the play off semi, those are fine margins - what's to say that the intel they had before the game didn't give them that extra bit to get over the line?
No point going into a game of what ifs. If you genuinely think that spying on a training session is what tilted that game in Southampton’s favour and the only reason why they beat Middlesbrough then we can agree to disagree.

It’s ironically a similar argument to what opposition fans make against us re the charges, labelling us cheats to the score and saying that we should be stripped of our sporting achievements

You cant nuance a result though or cheating can you, not a hard concept really.
