Elliot Anderson | Opening bid rejected (p189)

From what I have read, he has more of a double pivot, but one of those is a box to box player who pushes on in possession with a full back dropping inside. At Leicester it was Winks as a 6 and Ndidi box to box. Chelsea it was Caicedo and Fernandez.

Very similar to us really so of course Rodri would have a role.
and he likes inverted full backs coming into the midfiled

Don’t think it’s about a run of games for Nico G. As much as some of his fan boys don’t like the simple truth he’s way too immobile for the role and is simply not good enough on the ball, he doesn’t have close to the passing range to play there. Reading of the game may improve but won’t change his inability to play through the lines / long balls. Pep doesn’t trust him at all and it’s been obvious since the day he signed.

Anderson will be a great addition as an 8. Plays through the lines with both feet, can do long passes and has a good engine. We need another one though as well as him.
I think it's the fact he needs a few touches too, either doesn't have it under full control or doesn't know where it's going when he receives it.

It's a shame but it's probably in everyone's interest that he leaves for pastures new. Unless Maresca fancies him of course!!

Balance has been the issue all season. We have been sterile and sideways in games we have setup more defensive or too open defensively when we have tried to be more attack minded.

The ball retention and technical dominance we once had is no longer there. So we need players with more energy so we can pin teams back and recover in transition. Anderson playing alongside Rodri, in the role Bernardo has this year is a perfect signing. He can drop in and play as a 6 but it a box to box player effective on and off the ball and for me is the perfect signing to help our defence be more robust and our attack be more effective.

The concern is how much football he has played - U21 Euros last summer, World Cup this one and a long season with Forest. We probably need another name too. I don't think Nico or Reijnders are up to the task personally.
Reijnders has been the most ill fitting buy since Phillips.

He’s not a PL player. Too nice and goes missing cos he doesn’t like the rough boys.

Gonzalez is better but he isn’t good enough either. Too many touches, too slow, doesn’t impact games.

I’d pie both.

Said the same myself on Reijnders. That Southampton league cup game when Phillips played and just hid on the pitch was game over for him.

Reijnders failing to impact the semi final against Southampton was game over for him.

So many better players out there than him.

Nico is a good footballer, but not to the level we need either. We have been good with our signings but in the desperation to fix a broken season and be sharp for this one we have certainly made mistakes.

Have to say though, I haven't seen a lot of Anderson but didn't rate him in his recent England appearance. Didn't think he offered anything any more than Gonzalez has, who I don't think is as bad as some have suggested. Even Kovacic has given the ball away a lot sine he came back from injury, did it a few times last night and in the Everton match, one of which they scored from .

Anderson is infinitely better on the ball than Gonzalez and gets about the pitch much quicker. Whether he has the ability to step up and dominate games for us regularly including in Europe only time will tell but he’s brilliant at breaking the lines with passes and is a huge upgrade on Nico G.

One thing I like with Anderson is that he seems to turn up every game. A player one can expect to deliver at least a 3 or 4 out 5 performance every time he plays, rather than a 5 out of 5 one game and a 1 or 2 out of 5 the next like to many of our players.

Not the best place to judge players when playing for national side. One thing is you will never see him hide , he wants the ball and if he is able to wants to make an impact on the game.

Still haven't seen a lot of him, but I do like those quick passes he pings between the lines - perfect for quick feet like Phil's or Cherki's.

And Fernandinho steel to go with it.

I suspect a fee of about 100m will be agreed, 120m will never happen.

Forrest still get an absolute mammoth fee for him after 1 year and we cannot skimp on midfield as have in the past, we need to get our #1 target and not lose to another club again here.
