3 | Ruben Dias - 2025/26

Khusanov made a lot of stupid mistakes against Everton. From TV I could sense how nervous he was and wasn't ready for that pressure. That's when players like Ruben are vital.

Skills aren nothing without experience, leadership and winning mentality.

Ruben is a great CB and I don't think people writing him off understand that club extended his contract for a reason.

He will be first choice and most probably will be chosen as a captain.

If everyone stays

Ruben-Gvardiol is our main defensive duo
Khusanov-Guehi are subs..
Dias has fooled loads on here by shouting, pointing, high fiving and pulling his shorts up during games. All theatrics to cover up his shortcomings. As for leadership. Cast your mind back to the Bernabeu when we blew the 2 goal lead. Instead of steadying the ship he gave away a completely unnecessary penalty when there was no danger at all.like others have posted 4th choice now.

Will surely stay. Likely 3 centre backs next season but christ does he look laboured when running towards his own goal…. Thought Dimichellis, whos only 46 by the way, had come back for a token run out.

Me as well..

Considering his pace, I think he should be used more as a RCB

For me, this is our best Starting 11 right now:

----------------------Donarumma-----------------------
------Khusanov-----Ruben/Guehi------Gvardiol------
----------------Rodri--------------Oreilly-----------------
Semenyo-----Cherki--------Foden/Reijnders----Doku
------------------------Haalaand--------------------------

I would rotate Matheus and Oreilly as inverted fullbacks and in front we would have 4 players behind Haaland.
I quite like that line up. From next season we will hopefully have Anderson who for me will fit in somewhere un front of Rodri and O’Reilly. I like the back three of Khusanov Guehi and Gvardiol. Leaving Semenyo, Foden/Cherki and Doku with Haaland up front. If we can get that team to gel, then wow. I’d have to think about Nunes because I’d forgotten about him:(

His performance on Sunday was bloody terrible.

Whatever he had, he certainly doesn’t have it now.

We have Khusanov, Guehi, Gvardiol, Ake and Reis (probably) all available at CB next season. I think it might be time for Ruben to move on.

I would be inclined to sell, caughtoffside have reported he is looking at options to move as well (which obviously can just be BS)

But, I think he has regressed significantly from when he arrived...the current state of the game as well means you need pace as as a defender, which he has none

Anyone who thinks Guehi isn't going to be a starter is just kidding themselves as it would mean their favourite will be benched, he will also become a captain of City as well.

If we could persuade Ake to stay for another year, maybe sign a short term contract extension, then we would surely consider letting Dias go.

Khusanov, Guehi, Gvardiol, Ake and perhaps Reis back at the club sounds good.

Obviously the concern around Ake is his availability, but it doesn’t feel like he’s been injured more than Dias over the past 18 months or so.

Good time to cash in before clubs realise he's not the same player anymore. Doesn't get a game for me next season unless we suddenly start playing deep.

Kush and Josko is the starting pairing, not bad to have Dias and Guehl as the back up! That said, its possible we get good money for Dias and Reis comes back.
Just don't play Ake at left back.

Guehi hasn't come here to be a backup, trust me, that's why we did what we did in Jan, and that's also why he chose us.

In saying that though I hope Josko doesn't leave the club

Guehi, Gvardiol, Nunes and NoR expect to be playing when fit/in acceptable form. Khus, Ake, Reis, RaN, likely expect and should accept reasonable rotation.

The outlier is going to be Dias, who’s probably the only one who might have a higher expectation for starting that he can probably command when you consider his rather rapid decline and similarly rapid upturn in the younger guys competing for those places. Still see us playing 3 CBs and 5 options is about right… Ake to leave/Reis go out again.

Khusanov's pace has bailed out Guehi a fair few times as it would Dias.

Not sure where people are getting the idea of Guehi as nailed on starter and captain from. His best performances are still probably 4th best behind Khusanov, Gvardiol and Dias and his worst performances have cost us dearly in big games this season.

Dias looks a bit slow after injury, let's see where he is after a full pre-season.

I honestly don't think he's that much of a problem.

Our PL record when he starts this season is: P24 W16 D4 L4 (67% win)
Our PL record with him injured/benched is: P14 W7 D5 L2 (50% win)

If he'd started 38 games that would be: P38 W25 D7 L6 - 82 points
If he'd missed 38 games that would be: P38 W19 D13 L6 - 70 points
