Two jailed for death by dangerous driving

Same over here. A lot of people behind the wheel couldn't drive a nail into a bar of soap.
Had one today.

Waiting at a junction to continue onwards. Car in opposite lane graciously stops and gestures for me to venture forward. As I do the car behind undertakes them and almost hits me.

That's absolutely tragic, my heart goes out to that poor woman and her family! Awful that's viewed as fair sentences #RIP
They have a son so they have diverted their attention to him. But you never really get over something like that.

Really sad seeing such a wonderful human being going through so much pain.

Truly heartbreaking and massive credit to her for getting through that filming- hopefully its impact will stop some idiot from doing the same

Had a woman come do my blinds when I moved in to where I live. Found her online. Terribly posh, but a lovely human being.

And then about a year later I had cause to ask her to do more work on my house and she was quite hard to contact, and then I managed to catch her and she told me her 16 year old daughter had died in a car crash about three months before.

All Schoolmates in the car. On their way from school on a country lane. All three passengers died and the driver (17) didn’t have a scratch on him (although claimed memory loss).

Eventually (and it was about two years later) he pleaded guilty to death by careless driving. There wasn’t enough forensic evidence to support death by dangerous driving. He got the statutory maximum less a tiny bit of credit for a (very) late guilty plea. Went to a Young Offenders Institute for over a year.

This lady derived very little satisfaction from the verdict, of course. It’s not going to bring her daughter back. What a thing to endure.
Never seen this before, but did a quick search and found this about the above.

It’s a tough read.

thats a good sentence. The semtencing rules around harm caused by bad driving standards are incredibly poor and disproptionate to harm caused and culpability, but the law dictates them. That for once is a more appropriate sentence
Yet again successive Govts have promised to bring sentencing into line with public opinion but do sweet FA about it. As for driving standards we all know that there are increasing numbers on the road without a licence or with a fake one.
As for Insurance.. that's for mugs

I drive with the assumption that everyone around me is likely to do something stupid at some point. Having been driving over 30 years you get to know the warnings and triggers and adjust your behaviour accordingly. I guess I've been lucky with some very close calls. I always look for an escape route, and try to leave a gap. The only problem with leaving a gap over here in Florida is a gap bigger than 3 car lengths is an invitation for a truck to pull in in front of you, normally approaching a red light, which seems to be optional anyway.
