Enzo Maresca

This may sound controversial but I think us not winning the league with our new squad will work a lot better for us in the handover and the future. Enzo is now going to pick up a young and hungry team that wants blood. Enzo's job is to tweak little bits and compliment as opposed to other clubs that go through wholesale changes from start to finish with a new manager. The planning and infrastructure behind the scenes has been great with this one.

Crazy opinions. One of the best left backs in the game. And he gets stuck in too. However, it's likely rubbish so not worth arguing about. I doubt we would bring in a top class left back when we have NOR.

We need to dot the is and cross the ts on Maresca so that we can sort out transfers before the WC.
Now you've done it. I thought you were great in Paint Your Wagon.

I don't necessarily disagree. It'll be a change but it won't be some seismic shift.

I'm intrigued about it tbh.

It's crazy that the new guy hasn't even been appointed yet, but he's already brought back Grealish, and Diaz, binned our first choice keeper, let our second choice keeper go be a no.1, sold Rodri, swapped where Semenyo plays, and brough in half of his barely 1.5 year old Chelsea team.

At least we will maintain some level of continuity by retaining the no-set peice coach.

Donnarumma’s short passing game is much better than his long passing game.

That’s all good but watching that he needs to be a sweeper, play under pressure be the extra man and set the tempo if we are going to get the best for Maresca’s system. I’d be doing everything right now to convince Trafford to stay.

There is also remarkably little speculation about when he will be appointed amidst an assumption that it will be a formality. Chelsea may have something to say about that.

Don't think chelsea have any say in when he's appointed, they may try and claim some compensation but that will be after.

Too many people writing off Enzo. Although sacked for not being in the promotion spots in November at Parma - with a brand new side, that's hardly a failure with only a few months in the job. First year in management in this country - takes over relegated Leicester and wins the Championship. Takes over at crackpot club Chelsea - wins the Europa Conference and World Club Championship within just over a year of joining. Falls out with Chelsea's crazy owners and has issues with the medical team - leaves the club. Any other young/young-ish coach achieving those things on the pitch would be quickly snapped up by a top club.

There's a big tactical overlap with Pep - after all Enzo is part of the evolution of our set up. The similarities are the CBs drawing opponents onto them - tempting the 'jump' and causing them to lose their shape - keeping the ball in wide areas to draw the opponents in before switching the play - inverted FBs, fluid CBs and playing in the pockets. But from seeing how Chelsea played under Enzo, I can see him wanting our wingers to operate from further back than they do now. I can see Haaland playing as a more traditional CF. As for the GK, I can see Enzo wanting us playing us out from the back as we do now, but with the occasional precision 'long pass' like we used to do with Eddie. Although Donna and James (likely to leave) are better with their feet than they're given credit for, neither do the longer range precision pass. The GK situation will be interesting to watch unfold as will the DM position as from what I can see he likes his DMs to be very mobile whereas Rodri makes the ball do the work - in the right place, right time, sees things before they happen - switches the play left and right.

Enzo also appears to be a very quietly confident guy who will put big demands on our players. He has some big characters to manage.............. AND NEW SIGNINGS TO MAKE TO REPLACE OUTGOING LEGENDS.

If we tapped him up, we tapped him up whether or not we end up appointing him. If we didn't then we didn't. If he has a dispute with them, he's had months to sort it. And wouldn't have turned down other jobs in Italy imo, if he didnt feel comfortable.

Ultimately, the club are still releasing Pep material and after 10 uears maybe a week or two inbetween isn't inappropriate, as opposed to just announcing the next guy the next day like the last decade never happened.

I have a theory about that. I think he’s the greatest set piece coach in the world but unless we played it short, Pep would kick him in the bollocks at the end of the game and make him watch endless reruns of Pep’s video “retain possession or suffer the consequences “.

Maresca might have a different approach?

His biggest Job is getting Foden back to consistent levels and giving him the belief he needs.

He also needs to find a way of getting him in the team alongside Cherki, those two together could be something seriously magic.

Ultimately that may mean one of them playing wide. Whats happens with Rodri may also play a part. Neither has to play every game together though.
