Elliot Anderson | Opening bid rejected (p189)

my thoughts exactly and by the way rodri is talking i can't see him renewing. can't see the club been this far into a deal for a players and then backing out. this is nothing like the rice deal i don't remember us been all in like we have been off anderson

Is cash in on Rodrithis summer anyway mate and get Tonali? £60m for Rodri, £80m on Tonali

Appreciate this isn't the most important factor when signing a player, but I'm a fan of the way Elliott Anderson looks like a proper old-fashioned footballer, who wouldn't look out of place photoshopped into the team pictures of the 1960s along Bell, Lee, Summerbee et al. In fact he reminds me of a modern day version of Tony Book.

I'd like to draw your attention to this masterpiece:

Battered-Tank-Buddies.jpg

Seen a few people say something similar this week. Someone on Reddit earlier said he looks like a 50s schoolboy.

There's something in it and I can't quite work out what it is.

Don't know why so many on here are under the impression that Tonali isn't an excellent player.
Tonali is a seriously quality player, he’s not at the elite levels of Merlin, yaya or kdb, but who is!! & with top quality players around him he’d improve our midfield big time, Anderson has to remain top priority mind

again you're not comparing like for like.

its like saying i paid 2k for my house in 1966 and today i see someone bought another house nearby by for 400k

player fees have rocketed so comparing a 60m+ fee paid in 2019 with one in 2026 is just silly.

sorry but it is

The average PL transfer fee in 2019 was €15m, in 2025 it was €25m.

So if we're comparing like for like, £105m should be the ballpark.

However, this forgets the fact we got Rodri on the cheap, he refused several attempts by Atletico to increase his release clause which was set when he was still playing for Villarreal. Also excludes any "English tax".

If you go back to 2015 when we signed KDB - and I do think Anderson is of a similar calibre/as desirable a signing to Wolfsburg KDB - prices have tripled. So £55m would become...£165m.

Yeah don't get me wrong, I'm Anderson all the way but I keep seeing people talk about Tonali like he's Tom Cleverley.

Christ. Couldn’t think of a worse downgrade than this. Tonali is a roadrunner suited to non-possession based football, Anderson is the full package.

Tonali always looks like he’s overseeing a 5000 kilo shipment of beak coming in from Columbia.
