Having just read the Clattenburg thread and seeing several stupid decsions over the weekend (Chuckle not getting sent off) you have to seriously ask the question.

I honestly believe hand on heart it is corrupt one way or another and there ARE bent refereers and officials.

Discuss ?

Do you lot call him chuckle as well now chaz?

i completely disagree

i would be amazed if there is any sort of corruption at this level of the game (ref's being influenced)

ref's are all individuals and each interpret each situation differently and all make mistakes

There is too much money involved for it not to be, Sky TV control football and want there to be as much interest in their product as possible therefore they want to keep the clubs with the largest TV audiences at the top ie Utd, Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal.

I also think this is the reason they are promoting the new Fifa ' financial fair play' rules, which lets be honest are probably the most unfair rules ever designed only to keep the bigger clubs at the top.

Do Sky have referee's on the payroll is the big question and the answer to this is it is possible but we will probably never find out and only be labelled as conspiracy theorists for even mentioning it.

Is that you Scudamore ?

Not sure there is outright corruption but there is certainly a huge amount of incompetence and inconsistency.

Are you daft? Were you calling it corrupt after the Newcastle or Blackpool games?

I suppose we're buying refs as well.

Anyone hear Poll talking about whether the 'big teams' get the decisions on Talksport recently? I couldn't believe my ears.

He said subconciously they probably do. However, he then went on in so much detail about why they would often get the decisions it was quite clear this wasn't anything to with the subconcious, it was just plain bias to ensure he didn't upset the likes of Ferguson (he even menioned how nice it was to walk out at Old Trafford) and kept on getting the big clubs' matches. What also went unsaid was that Ferguson clearly has an influence on who referees their games.

Now we all knew that to a degree but to hear it straight from Poll's mouth was too much.

In the interest of fairness though, please don't forget the nailed on penalty for Newcastle which wasn't given the other week at our place.

These sort of threads seem to appear whenever we lose in contentious circumstances,no I don't think the refs are corrupt, inconsistent and over scrutinized though definitely.
I'm more inclined to think that the media, who do have an agenda, highlight certain teams foul and style of play etc, while ignoring and glossing over similar stuff by their chosen ones.
Referees watch telly read the paper like everyone else, and it probably has an influence.

Why has it appeared this time then? Nothing was contentious about yesterday really.

because we have paranoid fans who believe everyone involved with football is making sure we fail by bribing refs etc

i wouldnt go as far as corrupt but for me club chairmen should not be on the FA panel as it must be a conflict of interests.

Most of it is down to poor refs/assistants in all fairness but as Poll once said, some refs do give certain teams and players alot more decisions than some lower placed teams.
Every weekend there are awful decisions, we have had some in our favour lately but we all know who have benefited the most over the years.

Clough once said Shilton in goal was as good as 10 points. The decisions those lot get must be more than that a year.

I am amazed the ref who failed to send off Neville has got off scot free. Would they have had the win with 10 men? Would they have won the carling cup with 10 men?

This post more than covers it for me

Don't think the league is corrupt and I don't think refs take money for there poor performances but they do favour the big teams and big players, most seem reluctant to give decisions against big teams in contentious situations. Pressure I think plays alot to do with this with media and most neutral fans attention is on the top end of the table, it seems refs would rather get a decision wrong that cost a lower or midtable team than get one wrong that would maybe cost a team a place in the champions league. Hopefully we will see more decisions go our way because of this. This is where the need to tv replays of incidents really come into it, so there can be no bias or perceived bias

It shouldn't happen but refs do get 'starry eyed' at times when reffing the big clubs, it's always happened & always will.

Without a doubt the Prem is corrupt.

All the "big" teams get the majority of decisions going their way and we've seen this so many times over the years with the rags, arse, reddippers and chelsea.

As we've now more or less broken into the top four and with all the money we've chucked into the game, we've started to get some decisions as we saw at Blackpool and against Newcastle.

Yesterdays match referee got almost everything right
