My mate's reasoning:
"We sing it in reference to the Suarez and Heysel incidents where they insist it's not their fault."

I said I agree, but surely context has to he considered. Time and a place, and all that. To which he replied:
"Whether there was an investigation or not, we would have sung that song today. And we'll sing it at Anfield next week."

Hmm.
This. Whilst it's true that it's been sung for some time (particularly around the Suarez controversy last season) context is everything. Absolutely inexcusable to have been sung today after the events of the past week and the perpetrators are either sick twats who knew exactly what they were doing or thick as pigshit if they really don't see the effect singing that song has now.

Survivors, and relatives of Hillsborough victims, have been through enough over the last 23 years without having to read about these fkn muppets trying to act the big men now. It's taken over 2 decades for the authorities to finally come clean and admit Liverpool fans were in no way whatsoever to blame for what happened at Hillsborough in 1989, frankly I can't
think of a worse chant for Liverpool fans to hear at this particular moment than what was sung today at Old Trafford.

As a Utd fan I'm ashamed that those morons responsible are associated with my team.

The only decent post you've ever contributed on here.

What about the Russian Submarine chants?

They did sing it last year. Not that it makes it acceptable.

And we (a minority ) still sing Munich songs. Can't be hypocritical here really. I don't believe there is a time or a place but a couple of days after the verdict is extremely distasteful. On the 50th anniversary of Munich we obviously conducted ourselves as we should have. But that's how it should be all the time. I understand some fans arguments about singing it in reference to the rags exploiting it for there own gain. Still I don't agree with it either way.

Yes we have our own morons, every club has,its society.

These twats are the type who are led by the mob, pathetic on their own and I dont just mean Rags.

It's not just the chanting that's vile; it's the whole arrogant, "we'll do what we want-we're a law unto ourselves" posturing behind it. Worse still, the authorities let them get away with it. As has been mentioned, they simply do not get that it is this very egoism that causes most clubs' fans to despise everything that club stands for.

I believe we are now in a space where the authorities should be fining any club where this happens and threaten to force them to play behind closed doors. I also believe us fans have a responsibility to self police.

After their actions in the semi at wembley no one on here should ever have a good word to say about them

What about the Russian Submarine chants?
Aberfan?
MVF?
Turks carrying knives?

Let's face facts; the vermin have a long history for doing this. But God help any club who dares mention/sing anything related to Munich.

I just hope, given the sentiments expressed this week and on this thread we've moved on as well.

Agreed. I wasn't even thinking of justifying those Munich songs in my previous post. It sickens me when I hear it.

Sorry if that's how it came across, as I know you weren't mate.

Just read Drasdo (?) on BBC who has said:

We did hear the usual anti-Liverpool chants at the match today but we're pleased to say, despite some reports to the contrary, there was nothing that was specifically referencing Hillsborough.

Now whilst the word Hillsborough may not have been used, you'd have to be naive to think the song they sang wasn't anything to do with it. I wonder if they'll have the bollocks to sing it again next week?

Thought not.

I've mentioned it before but no-one comes close to them when it comes to being utter pond life, they really are sub-human slime. A bunch of cowards and shithouses who have taken the easy way out, gobshites and lemmings who probably sing more about rivals than their own team, all the strutting and pseudo socialist claptrap which they espouse and know nothing about, 'sussed and sorted' black clad sheep singing nursery rhymes....thank God neither me or any of my family ever became one.

Gets mentioned about half way down.
