City Greats Contest - Kinky v Ali

In the latest of my World famous contests, my new offering is an unusual one. I don't really expect a winner. I'm simply going to put two players of a similar ilk up against each other and let City fans decide the winner.

Geo Kinkladze.................................................Ali Benarbia

Individually Gio, as a team player Ali. Was brilliant to have seen them both though.

Ok. Both were the best players in the team during their time here. However Ali was too old by the time we got to the premier league to shine. So in that way its a bit of an unfair comparison. However, Kinkladze was the better player for us in my opinion.

I watched him at leeds away in 1995 when we won 1-0. Creaney scored believe or not. But in the leeds team was Gary Macallister who was considered to be one of the best around at that time. Kinky must have nutmeged him 4 or 5 times and controlled the game.

Put Ali in my all time 11 as he was the team player who looked for the best for his team mate

Kinky was the better individual player who lit up many a dull day.

Kinkladze.

I loved Benarbia, not sure why but I particularly remember a goal he scored late on against Spurs to make it 3-2 (we still lost). Left side of the box and opened his body to curl and dip one past the keeper, top class. However, Kinkladze was ridiculously good and so gets my vote.

Always Ali.....he was the Silva of his day and a genius at bringing players into the game, fantastic player.

How can you say Benarbia easily, when you really didn't see how good Kingladze play/was

The younger ones won't even remember Kinky. It's a no contest in terms of ability. Many forget that Ali struggled to get into the team in the premier league - he had the odd good moment but mostly forgettable games if he even played. We all remeber Ali having influence and time, but that was is the Championship!! Comparison over.

I saw Ali play, but I missed seeing any of Kinky's games - I was out of the UK for the whole time, and perhaps for this reason as he is the 'one who got away' - so if I could bring either of them back it would have to be Kinky.. I would love to see him playing in any one of our teams.
