Player thread: James Milner (2014/15)

I dont buy this "He knows who's coming" approach, simnply because I believe that he made his decision in December. I doubt that the players would have any insight into our plans at that point, it could be too demotivating for some.
thought this is from when he didn't get on in the capital one final .

I will be astonished if we offered Milner 165k a week, that's desperation if you ask me.

With the new additions in the summer I am not convinced Milner would have played more than 20 games and even then he wouldn't have got his favoured central midfield position.

He clearly wasn't happy wanting to be a squad player.

but he's quite happy playing in a lower std team without playing on the top stage of Champs league.

He knows he's going to be on the slide with his age, he unwisely thinks it will be an easier place to hide during this process.

We have seen how the dippers have treated Sterling this week trying to carry them on his own. He won't get any mercy (but he might get a free candle)

As someone has previously mentioned. If he stays with us his England career is over

He was offered 80k per week plus incentives. That's our standard "non galactico" deal.

Only Kun,yaya, Merlin and vinny get a higher base wage.everything and everyone else is incentive based.

Dippers spreading that 165k figure to make themselves look good.

Just posted this on twitter. An accurate reflection imho.

@OliverKayTimes Another mercenary showing a lack of ambition. #moneyovertrophies

Enjoy the money James. No more medals for you

You have to question the mentality of Milner if he joins Liverpool. Quite literally might as well say "hey everybody fuck ambition I can play in the middle of the park and win fuck all"

Good luck to him, cheers for the service Jimmy but your not better than any of our current central midfielders but got more than your fair share elsewhere.

That 165k figure came from Stu Brennan on Twitter a few weeks back.

Always had a bit of time for him, for his workrate and versatility if nothing else, but his game is largely about intensity and in terms of his age that can only go one way now. He'll do ok on miseryside, nothing more. No CL, no trophies, no chance of breaking back into the top four.
And we move on.

Suggestion seems to be that Milner will play more centrally at Liverpool in the Gerrard role. That's where he was at Villa.

Isnt it just being realistic, knowing that the older he gets the fewer games he will get for City? Winning trophies is great but wouldnt it take the gloss off if he only played a few games? Especially when he already has a few medals.

I always wondered why players such as Park were happy to stay at United knowing that their contribution to the success was fairly limited.

I can easily see how the prospect of playing every week at Liverpool might appeal more than being a bench warmer at City with a few Capital One Cup appearences to look forward to.

In all fairness to him he has played more lately than ever. Pelle obviously rates him and the club wont offer big contracts out just to fill the quota. I expect in about 2 years due to the way he plays he might drop off but his fitness is incredible and he can look at every one of his medals so far and know he made a sizeable contribution. There are only 4 maybe 5 definate starters in our team. Whats the point ofplaying a game that you dont have anything to show for at the end of it all especially when you still have the talent to earn your winners medal

I didn't believe it when I heard it then and I don't now. City don't release stuff like that, and Brennan has said before he gets nothing from City. It might have come from Milner to deflect stories of him being greedy, but the most likely source is Liverpool. They are small time enough to put out shite like that. It's in their interests to lie about it, especially if we take Sterling away from them. It keeps up the myth that players go to them for the honour of playing. In the words of a notable poster "small time cunts".

Given our end of December to April form, it's not that hard to buy.

Or maybe he just enjoys playing football and he's looking for more of a central role as his career is in its latter stages. Or maybe he wants to add Liverpool to his resume so he can look back and say he played for them. Or maybe he loves money. Who knows apart Jimmy? Good luck and good bye.

Sterling's issue is football or so we're led to believe.

Milner is falling behind City, perhaps a tad unfair, but definitely under pressure to get his place, whereas Sterling is ahead of LFC.

If milner wants a midfield role and Liverpool will give him that then whats the issue? We would not play him in a more central position for a long period of time realistically, and if hes heard were bringing in other midfielders than he would be stupid to stay!
