Raphael Honigsten just tweeted that TSG happy to sell for €30m and Firmino's agent is in the process of looking for a buyer. Also added (his own opinion) that he's a great player but inconsistent and that he doesn't see him as top 4 material yet.

I beg to differ with the second part but fair enough.

It's what I said when this thread started. Too inconsistent and not the quality we are looking for at first. Quantity player yes. Probably.

thats definitely a big part of it, of course, but should the club sign (what they view as) the inferior player, because he is cheaper (as the above poster is alluding to)?

With all due respect, I'm guessing the above poster doesn't see him as the inferior player. Never mind being only half the player (according to his estimated transfer value compared to sterling's).

Pam's spot on. If Sterling was a random French footballer playing his football for a comparable side to Liverpool (Lyon?) In ligue 1 I very much doubt we'd be bidding anything higher than 15m for his signature. On the contrary, if Firmino was an Englishman he'd be the best player since sliced bread (who was a very good player btw, really versatile).

I get why we need home grown players in the squad, I do. But anything like 40 odd million for an average one is obscene.
