If Chelsea do show their hand, which they may do the longer it drags on, then serious questions would have to be asked. This has to be wrapped up by the end of next week.
If Chelsea decide to pay more than City, surely that is their choice & why wouldn't they be bidding anyway ?
What is stopping them ?

They are planning on bidding for Sterling but they are sitting on their arses & letting City buy him ? But if we don't buy him.quickly, they have 50 mil hanging around which they will just punt on Sterling at the last minute ?

Surely if Chelsea want Sterling they will have told Liverpool, so they can bid on him ? Or are they just totally shit at this kind of thing ?

Yeah, Chelsea arent going to step aside and let us sign a player without so much as a peep, and only try to buy him if we can't get a deal done.

Maybe our transfer budget isn't as large has as been mentioned
I think it's probably very decent to say the least, but it's still one pot of money ultimately, and overpaying for one player leaves a bit less for another, so we're juggling on multiple fronts. Plus, we don't know the status of outgoing players either. The difference between 10m and 20m for Dzeko might mean the difference between 70m and 80m for Pogba (just an example).

I'm happy for us to save money any way we can. Some wanted us to pay the asking price from day 1.

By not doing that we've already saved some money.
That's true.

However, it's all well and good trying to save money but when you specify we're saving by not paying his wages whilst he's on holidays I find that's not a stroke of genius is my point as I believe you intended it to sound. Apologies if not the case, it's my interpretation.

If they want him or more accurately if they can afford him, they will match City's bid if it is accepted. Unless of course they know he is coming to City.

Or they could have just paid it but they haven't.

Just saying that buying him next week instead of two weeks ago means that we pay around £200k less in wages. For a period when he would be on holidays.

You can interpret that any way you like.

I agree with what a lot of people have said both sides. People who think we should front the money and people who think we shouldn't. Has anyone stopped to consider on our targets this summer we may have to pay over what we want? We may have to pay more in agents fees than we should or what we value players at?

It's the progression, Bridge, Santa Cruz, Adebayor, Lescott, Milner etc we paid more than what these players were worth at the time and many more during that period. Why did we do that? To get to that next level. We had to overpay to get the players required to push us up the ladder. It worked and we are one more push away from being an outfit in Europe with our targets this summer. We overpay now for these players which puts City on the map and in a few years down the line we will be at the top table and not needing to negotiate like this or clubs/agents thinking they can rip us off. That's my opinion anyway and if we want to be at this level quick then anything and everything must be done.

Led to believe we've reached agreement with Liverpool.

As with the Delph stuff, I'm just relaying stuff I've been told so don't shoot the messenger.

I interpret that as the mirror image of people interpreting questioning as flapping.

We didnt pay more than we felt they were worth though. At the same period we walked away from a number of deals that were just too expensive.

Don't you think it's all gone very quiet since we had the Sky report that the clubs are in dialogue?
Liverpool haven't announced they've knocked us back again so just maybe the deal is done

If we you believe or think city felt they paid the going rate for players during that time then fine. We all know we went through a period of over paying and it was to progress that step higher

I think arsenal and Chelsea will both come in for sterling next summer were we not to close the deal, as the price would come down with a year to go on his contract. Sterling wouldnt be happy with us for not closing the deal this summer, so reckon he would pick one of those sides over us in that scenario. To me we either get him in this window or we miss out. WHat I would say is surely Txiki wouldnt be able to survive another window without landing a world class player, even with the Pep connection

I hope so Ric, fingers crossed.

Can you elaborate on what the problem with the Delph transfer? If not no probs.
