Rony Lopes

Well put it this way, either City are right & all those other teams who brought through young players at that age were wrong, or they were right & we are wrong. I'm looking at our teams from the past few years, & don't see that many home produced players over 21 in our Champions League squad, or our Premier League squad. I see 4 empty spaces.

Our Spanish duo did a good job with youth at Barcelona so I see no reason why the way we are approaching it is the wrong way. I think we have to trust their judgement on this one.

We're not going to have youth players over 21 in our CL squad as we haven't had the quality until now. It's the current crop that we should be looking at and how we can gradually integrate them or give them experience elsewhere on loan.

Perhaps we think they aren't quite ready yet and would be better served for the long term on loan or in the EDS for another year. Barcelona used to bring good quality youth players through and as we have the Spanish duo in charge, I would expect to see more youth being given a go over the next couple of seasons.

I fully expect to see that happen, but there is no reason Pellegrini couldn't have given some of those players game time. No 17, 18, 19 year old players are ever 'ready'. That doesn't mean they can't e useful, or can't be given a bit of experience.

When it suited him, Pellegrini was happy to chuck that poor bastard Pozo up front with his back to goal, v Phil Jagielka! I don't think you'll find one person who watches the EDS, who would have agreed with that decision.

I agree it was poor usage of him and such experiences will probably hinder a player's progress. That's why we have to be so careful about how we integrate these youngsters.

With today's first team training gallery there is a picture of just him and Denayer.

Maffeo is the player I am sure can replace Sagna now and Zabaleta in the future if we give him the chance to prove himself.

I am sure Maffeo can step up now, but not so sure about Rony.

If Pellegrini believe in Rony, then he should sell Navas and rely on Rony instead.

Watford FA Cup, on for 2 minutes and scores to become our youngest ever scorer
Wigan CoC, starts and looked completely at home in an excellent team performance
West Ham CoC smi first leg, came on for last 20 minutes when we were already 5-0 up and cruising, don't remember much about it
West Ham in CoC semi, assists 2 goals and is named man of the match.
Watford FA Cup, struggles to get into the game as part of a shambolic team performance and subbed after an hour

Those are the handful of games he's played for the club. Randomly it seems he's only allowed to play against teams beginning with a W?

Watford game he played like 2 mins so can barely judge from that,
West Ham semi first leg, although he produced a nice backheel in the build up for Dzeko's goal, he did not impress me in the time that he was on, gave the ball away too much,
Wigan game where we won 7-0, he looked fairly good that game, but would not say he stood out,
Watford FA Cup, he struggled massively and did not have any impact on the game.

As stated, the only game i was majorly impressed with him was the West Ham away where he looked class everytime he got the ball. Just think he needs more consistency and needs to get involved in games for longer periods instead of fluttering in and out. I really hope the kid makes it with us though.

Maffeo isn't quite ready to step up yet he needs a good loan for the first team experience and Rony isn't remotely the same type of player as Navas, more of a Nasri type player, barker and Roberts are closer to Navas.

This rumor won't go away.

The question that has to be asked is... if he 's available, why hasn't he gone before now? We're two months into the window and he's had pre - season with City. How much would he be to buy...Under €10m? Surely OL could rustle up this cash fairly swiftly and get it done.

I say it's B'S.

Flogging him will to me send out the message that the CFA is purely about making money rather than producing first team players for us.

Ronnie has had a taste of first team football with us and looked at the very least reasonable, he's been abroad and had built up his experience and is now stuck.

He needs to be incorporated into the squad and will be worth as much give it take next summer if it doesn't work out.

Or he's come back from loan, had pre-season with the first team and quite simply isn't at the level required. If that's the case then sell him and promote the next kid rather than block his path

If we think he's not good enough then it doesn't matter what message it sends out.

Rony Lopes will be transferred this summer. (L'Equipe)

While priority was given to an extension of his contract with Manchester City, which runs until 2016, Rony Lopes (19 years) should be transferred this summer. The Portuguese midfielder, on loan at Lille last season, has not reached an agreement with the English leaders. In France, Lyon and Marseille is particularly interested seeks a medium. A return to L1 is a possibility. But many interests are elsewhere in Europe.

Didn't we make a thing of him being promoted to the first team at City Live? If so why would we be selling him?

WTF ?

There's no doubt he will be a good player but he isn't ready yet and he's in danger Manu Garcia will overtake him. A domestic loan would be perfect but if we have to sell him, do it now so we can have a decent sell on and buy back clause.

Why would they announce that he has been promoted at City live if the plan was to sell him.

I'd be very disappointed if we sold Lopes, especially just days after "promoting" him to the first team.

Another loan would make more sense, as I think he'll have limited opportunities if/when we sign De Bruyne. Personally I'd rather sell Nasri and give Lopes a chance.
