Post match thread - City v Chelsea

when your as good as city was you make other teams look poor
great performance ,really pleased with mangala,s and kolorov especially mangalla

Thought we started the game excellently but just couldn't find the net. Then as Chelsea started getting into the game we scored! and they didn't know what to do for a bit. Don't recall them having a chance in the first half at all. We were superb.

I thought Chelsea were excellent second half - outside our box - but we were even better defensively (Pellegrini has finally learnt. That's the best I've seen from him defensively since Malaga played Dortmund in the CL!) Great stuff! We were compact, narrow, disciplined and determined not to concede. I can't describe how happy I am about that!

Chelsea had one real chance. ONE! And they had most of the possession and played in our half for long stretches of the second half. And they created one chance against our defending.

And then as they tired, we sucker punched them with fantastic counter attacking football and good pressure on the ball to win a corner (for a goal) and force a mistake (for a goal).

We were brilliant!

Great stuff!

Still need to sign more players because once you go past about 13/14 players we drop in quality significantly but that's for another day... I'm gonna watch the 90mins back now!

Buzzing!

I had a look at the Chelsea forum and I was pleasantly surprised at how honest the posters were. They admitted that we were by far the better team and many expressed embarrassment at Jose's post match comments which were ridiculous.

Don't underestimate the difference sterling made to the team today. To have his pace on the left and navas on the right made Chelsea approach the game in a different way. And the first time sterling got around in ivanovich they started doubting themselves. That's what he brings to the team. So impressed today with how the team raised in every department and it was down to a twin sided lightning quick attack.

I'll never learn will I?
I've been thinking I have just witnessed the champions getting humiliated and should have been 4-0 down before half time.
Then someone says it was because we should have had 2 players sent off and we actually lost the second half.
I feel guilty celebrating now. It feels so empty.

Absolutely. That additional pace on the left is allowing much more creativity in the central areas. It discourages opposing fullbacks from attacking and allows our own fullbacks to attack and they are dangerous when they do so.

Also good to hear and see the photos of Micah and Balotelli supporting the lads today at the ground.

Basically fuck all. Just constant drivel about why Terry was substituted at half time.
We get absolutely NO credit whatsoever.

Souness and henry gave us plenty of praise, Quinn also a bit but this got clouded over by his one man mission to prove the cliche that the Irish are indeed simpletons

I've just been looking at the transfer forum and all of a sudden it hit me what a complete genius Mourinho is. I always thought he was overrated, but he's outdone himself this time - by deliberately getting hammered today, he's making us think that all our players are brilliant and that we don't need to sign De Bruyne, a left-back, or a center-back, while at the same time forcing Roman to give him a big wad of cash to go and make a couple of mega signings. And because he went on about everyone else spending big except him a couple of weeks back, that will be what the media remembers, even after he's outspent everyone else's summer spends by deadline day. I take my hat off to you Jose - pure genius.

To the posters asking if Danny mills still thinks we won't win the league, well due to family commitments I could only listen to the last 20 mins of the game on the car radio and he was very complimentary about our performance. Everything about our performance was exceptional. He didn't have a ad word to say about us.
I didn't see the game but once the wife and kids bugger off to bed I will be settling down to watch it with a cold can or three :-)

Anyone got a gif of the elbow? I saw fuck all in 116, but know that Costa isn't one to play act and roll around if there's been no contact.....
He gave him a decent dig, it has to be said. I don't think it was deliberate (though only Fern can answer that) so, for me, a yellow card was correct.

Fuckin brilliant performance. We looked dangerous on the attack and solid once again in defence, but the game was won in midfield and Yaya, Fernandinho and Silva bossed it against Matic, Fabregas and Ramires. 44 fuckin 2 is finally dead and hopefully will never return and today showed we don't need two specialist attackers to rack up a decent score. 2 games played, 6 scored, none conceded, won our last 8 Premier League games which equals our best run ever....... it doesn't get better than that.

Everyone played their part today but a special mention has to go out to Sagna and Kolarov, they were both excellent and Sagna is now providing competition and cover for Zabs who incidentally may find it difficult to remove Sagna if his present form continues. Defensively, we've gone back to basics and our defenders are beginning to look dominant and world class again. Success is built from the back and our last 8 Prem games have proven this beyond all doubt.

Whilst Sterling isn't quite up to speed yet, his speed gave Ivanovic the shits! Chelsea were crapping it every time he ran at them as it caused pure panic in their defence, all we need is for him to settle down and get used to our passing/possession game. He's only 20 so still has years ahead of him to improve his passing, shooting and positional play. Right now I couldn't be happier and my only gripe is that we weren't playing this formation 12 months ago because the whole team now looks happier and stronger than I've seen them for a very long time.

Kompany's performances and his happier demeanour says it all. Finally a word of support for the boss; whether because of pressure from above or because he's finally woken up and sniffed the coffee, I couldn't be happier for him and our new found formation and the fact he's given Maureen one up his arse! :-)

Great post.

Only thing I would add; we looked organised and strong when facing a set play today and against West Brom.

Last season I felt we would concede every time.
