Cheers Mate

We're actually staying at the IBIS, adjacent to the Bochum hauptbahnhof on the Friday evening.
Is there a time period when you can start using your match ticket as a train ticket because we'll probably be arriving in Bochum around midday.
Similarly, on the Saturday can we use our Cologne-Monchengladbach match tickets, all the way from Bochum to Cologne, or is there some kind of boundary limit?

Doesn't say so on their website, it says "valid on match day" only, so should be alright to get to Bochum early with S-Bahn, RE trains and other regional trains, no IC, ICE and EC fast trains (probably because VRR/ Rhein-Ruhr region is far bigger than VRS/ Köln-Bonn-Rhein-Sieg region, whereas e.g. Cologne match ticket is valid 4 hrs before kick off until 3:00 in the night.)

No, Cologne match ticket is only valid for the VRS region, if you go via Düsseldorf (e.g RE6 or RE1) it's valid from Langenfeld (Rhineland) to Cologne only, so you should buy an additional ticket to cover for the way between Bochum and Langenfeld (or Cologne) (or a VRR day ticket or Schöner Tag single/group (up to five people) ticket for 42€ (sometimes there's others who offer to share or sth, whichever is cheaper- depends really). Simplest way might be to get a Deutsche Bahn ticket from Bochum to Cologne (currently saver for 19€ for the direct fast IC/ICE train e.g 11:24 (just about 1 hour journey)

Yes, I've heard about the in-joke conspiracy theory, which apparently even Angela Merkel has shared.
All I know is that it's close to the Teutoburg Forest where the Germanic tribes once formed an alliance to destroy the Roman Army. I believe old Herman might have had something to do with that.

Thats spot on..The chieftain leading the german tribes was a guy called Arminus which later on got nicknamed "Herman" for whatever reason.

During the battle of the Teutoburger Forest the German tribes destroyed 3 full Roman Legions and it ended the efforts of the Roman empire to include the areas to the right side of the river Rhine into their empire.

This thread is a real "EierlegendeWollmilchsau" (Kudos to whoever gets this of our English friends ;) )...you can not just talk about the Bundesliga, but you get a top notch education about our traffic system and history as well. ;)

Just dont mention the war!

Haha.
Yes, I remember from my Military History studies that Arminius was a master tactician.
Perhaps, he could have found a way for Gerrard and Lampard to play in the same system.

Join an English Soccer Forum and you get familiar with the German railway system ;))))

From my experience ,there's only one thing to learn from the German railway system.

It's better than ours.

I only live roughly 20 miles South of Manchester, but if travel by train, I get home about 90 minutes after the Final Whistle (and that's the early train)

good old Arminius gave Arminia Bielefeld the name.

The Alm, their ground, must be about 20 minutes to walk from the station. One of the last grounds, that is really in the city, not far out.

Bochum and Freiburg really setting the pace in the 2. Liga early in the season, with 16 and 15 points respectively after 6 matches. Highly rated Kaiserslautern is only on 8 pts. out of 6 and will have to battle to keep up with the table toppers, not to mention Düsseldorf and Union Berlin, who surprisingly might find themselves down in the dog fight for survival rather than into the race for promotion.

Moenchengladbach got a hammering 0-3 at home to Hamburg I see.
Saving themselves for the CL or do they seem to have regressed from last season?

They seem to be a real mess for whatever reason. They are not saving themselves up for the CL, they are just horrible at the moment. Lost two important players in Kruse and Kramer, but they shouldnt be that bad. No idea whats going on...

Was just joking with the "saving" thing :)

In some ways it would be better for City if they got their act together. We are hoping that they will take points off Juve and Sevilla.

I don't remember much about Lewis Holtby at Tottenham, but it wasn't long before they shipped him out to Fulham.
Last night he seemed to run Monchengladbach ragged.

Back from match against Cologne and still buzzing! Great atmosphere from both sides as usual when Cologne comes to our place (thats 10 times better than having to watch dross like the Augsburg match when there where something like 300 away fans in total).

Outplayed, outpassed, outfought and outeverythinged them...And the Fußballgott himself is back after beeing out for months. His first match after the month long injury and then he scores after 4 minutes and proceeds to net in 2 more times. Castaignos and Seferovic make it a nice 6-2!

In addition to that our management unveiled plans to expand our ground to a max capacity of 65000. They want to add room for an additional 15000 people standing terrace (making it the same size as Dortmund`s yellow wall) to offer the younger generation of fans and the less wealthy a better chance to get tickets. Out management explicitely mentioned that they want to prevent the overaging of the crowd as it happens already in the PL.

Increase in capacity might come as part of the European Cup 2024 or our efforts to host the Euroleague finals.

@Bembeltown are there any plans available to see? Like artists impressions...

Are they just planning to take out the seats in the upper tier or are they changing the structure?

No artists impressions yet, guess its a bit early for that.

From what I understood the plan is indeed to take out the seats in the upper tier of the NorthWest Stand and so create one big standing terrace. However there need to be changes to the structure as well, otherwise the capacity during official finals where its all seated will remain the same.

There are still discussions coming up every now and then to remove the standing terraces completely in the Bundesliga due to safety reasons, so I really like that our club gives a pretty strong statement with what they plan to do. Security is not a concern for them and cameras are available anyway to pick out any troublemakers.

Lets hope it becomes a reality. :)

Its not security reason its money that makes some people wanna get rid of standing sections.
You get 3-4 time the price of a standing ticket for a seater but you reduce only half the size.

Dont think ever standing will be forbidden in the Bundesliga as long as UEFA doesnt come along with it.

btw nice match vers hyped Cologne

If Cologne got hyped, they didn't get any more hype than any other team with a decent start into the new season, I presume. Surely, the result in Frankfurt was very embarrassing thanks to some very naive defending (couldn't watch the whole match as I went to a gold wedding, but someone had a tablet with 'sky go'). It's not the result itself that bothers me, it's the fact that Cologne waisted a very good chance to pick up more points to put a nice little cushion between itself and the struggling teams at the bottom of the table early on. Well, another chance next weekend to hopefully put that record straight

It seems like what I thought would happen to Dortmund and had written off is happening this season. I saw Gundogan against Scotland and have seen most of his matches this season. I did not see the game yesterday, but he is back to his best and I am not sure currently there more than 3 midfielders better than him. It looks like there could be a real title race this season. Bayern are not as strong as they once were. Mkhitaryan has been a revelation this season. It's not just his stats, which is something like 9 goals and 6 assist this season, but his level has gone up.

I am not that surprised by Gladbach struggling they lost key players that were vital to the system. It will take them some time to settle, but I think they will have a solid season after the Winter break.

The fight for the top 4 should be great. Schalke, Leverkusen and Wolfsburg all look like good teams. I hear Draxler did not have the best debut, but now he has his chance to shine.

Muller has been incredible this season for Bayern as has Costa. Gotze showed for Germany what he could do. The boy can be special and Bayern need to use him or lose him.
