I think you mean Mourinho, although it was his second season back. If Pellegrini had ever won anything as a manager, I'm sure we'd have heard about it in the press.

And supposed City fans were howling for the man's blood by September of the following year. Or, I should say THE year that he accomplished all this.

For fucks sake the man has an outstanding track record both here and elsewhere. People who have put and continue to put billions of pounds into this club are okay with employing him.

And it's not like he is Alan fucking Ball (a favourite example of the "so I'm not allowed to criticise the manager" set.) Ball's most notable accomplishment was that he got Stoke relegated to the third tier before coming here.

Everyone's got the right to an opinion and many differ in good faith. But I for one am pretty hesitant to get behind a keyboard and contemptuously second-guess a guy with this CV as far as the minutiae of tactics and team selection and man management.

Doesn't really wash mate.

For much of last season Demichelis was part of our first choice back four. He was key to those clean sheets we kept at the tail end of last season.

Otamendi is £32m signing as well, one which we apparently seemed fit to replace Mangala judging by our efforts to include him as a loan move as part of the deal. And thus arguably first choice by that measure.

What's really bothering me is we seem to lack a shape and discipline without possession at the moment, we look like we have individual players making calls on a whim as to when to press, rather than doing it as a unit. There's a lack of solidity and shape.

I expect it to improve, this is a sticky patch no doubt, but there are worrying signs there for me.
 
Without any doubt He is a good manager,working under pressure,and if he win some Silver this season,everything will be ok.....If not :(

What is indisputable is that we had 5 straight clean sheets with a Kompany / Mangala CB pairing, a pairing that has taken time to gel and which has been disrupted by injury. I'd say there's a fair bit more pace in that pairing than MDM / NO and that is important, given the way we play.
 
Can we please stop telling everyone to bomb forward, that front four is good enough to score goals as it is, when we have the fullbacks and CM's going forward we leave ourselves massively exposed.
 
Defensively we are a shambles. A huge majority of our problems come from the left back/ wing position on the counter attack.

Nothing is being done to solve this and every week/game teams deliberately target this.

Compare that to rhe way bmg defended last night or the way some other teams defend against us week in week out.....they are organised whereas we arent.

Hopefully now zabba is fit hw may move sagna over to the left ( not ideal but it has to be better than kolorov)
 
The sooner people realise that MP is not changing the way he sends us out the less stressful it will be.
Accept it for what it is and enjoy the ride. This season is going to see more of the same as last night. Plenty of wins, plenty of scares and the odd loss.
If you're not already bald I suggeset you start shaving or you'll be pulling out what hair you've got left.
 
It´s a results driven business so a big well done to Pellegrini for making the changes required. Navas offered his usual mix of good and bad on the right which allowed KdB to have more influence. Yaya had to be hooked and Fernando did well. The win has given us a good chance of progressing out the group.

The performance was shambolic though and the result could have been anything really. We are totally incapable of controlling a game of football and were indebted to Joe who had a great night. We will need to tighten up considerably against Sevilla. Hopefully having our captain back will help.
 
He needed that result and deserved a bit of luck. He seems to be under real pressure this season with the weekend press conference and last night looked stressed out. Hopefully the turning point and we can get a good result on Saturday.
 
He's not glossing over things, as he openly states in his interviews (so do the players),he recognises the glaring problems as much as us on here. Last night was a lucky result which will hopefully buy him time to put things right. Far too early to be getting rid. Get the injured players back and the new players fully integrated and let's see.

The thing is mate, I don't think we'll be getting rid regardless of what happens. This season was always going to be his last hurrah even with the new contract.
The quality of the team is what will see us through to the title, fitness pending...

I agree. He's not been in top form but then again neither has aguero so should we replace him as well?

He will though. Unless injuries force his hand to the extent he has to mess with the formation, what we saw last night will be our go to.
There will be the odd change in personel but the set up won't change.
Embrace it, honestly you'll feel better. Haha!
 
His options last night were almost nil with so many injured and silva and yaya not fit. Given that, the result was excellent. Not sure how he could set up the team different than he did. Well done manuel.

Totally agree , pellegrini is too stubborn to change or at least learn and improve his outmoded tactical system which in my opinion is holding us back.
With the squad we have and the poor start chelsea have made and the players we have brought in pellegrini has no excuses in the league and should win it .
But regardless of whether or not we win the league this should be pellegrini's last season.
 
Tactically we are quite a poor team. I think this has a lot to do with the manager. Manuel obviously drills it into the players to play their natural game and always look to attack, I see him as very Wenger-esque in his approach, but unless we are 2 or 3 goals ahead we really don't know how to kill off a tight game or hold a lead.

Last night his options were limited due to selection problems. However, and I don't mean to be pessimistic after a win, but while he's our manager I really can't see us doing anything of note in the champions league. Tactics and defensive organisation got atleti to the final last year. Very few teams get to the final by only playing their plan A these days, unless of course you're the barcas of the world and that's perhaps doing then a disservice because I think they are much more tactically astute than we are.
