Club Badge (merged)

We play the eagles tomorrow night, why would anyone want to include an eagle on our badge?

Round badge, classic sailing ship, three rivers as demonstrated by GeekinGav.

Great post, totally agree with this. The only connection the eaglr has to City is a designer from Kappa in 1997 liked it and they happened to be doing our kits that year. Same with the latin and stars.

The eagle has some obscure connection to Manchester for a few years in the 50s, but I doubt many knew much about it before 1997.

We've got the opportunity to have a badge that is instantly recognisable as Mancunian, instantly recognisable as City. A badge that represents our past and future. The round badge with ship and 3 river shield does all of those things.

The eagle was used on City material in the 1960s - I'll explain more at the MCFC lectures I'm doing on the badge's history (first one tomorrow).

It looks like Sky Sports will be filming some of my talk so hopefully those who can't make any of them will get a feel for what the facts/fiction/myths etc. are about City's badges from the TV. Cheers

Just reading the comments, hope to fuck the club see past the rather obvious glory supporters who do not know their arsehole form their ear holes. If the eagle or the starrs aren't fucked off I'll be fucking devo'd

My favourite comment:

you cannot go backwards in time when the club is moving forwards so the club needs the eagle has the emblem has the club soars to higher levels and achievements with on and off the field.

There's one of them that actually said he started supporting us cos of the badge as well, for fucks sake

Where as your reasons are much more valid?

Oh ok, thanks for that Gary, I wasn't aware of that. I won't be able to attend the lectures but I'll be very interested to watch afterwards if it is being filmed. Do the club plan to put it on the website or social media channels?

Does anyone know when the final badge design would have to be decided upon if it is to be included on next seasons kit?

I would assume just before xmas to give enough time for design, manufacture, shipping etc for a summer 2016 unveil?

Not certain. I've been focusing on my slides, so not certain what else is happening. It'd be worth emailing them to ask. I have contemplated putting the slides up on my facebook afterwards but on their own without my words they'll just look like pretty pictures of ships, bridges, rivers etc.

Gary, any idea when sky will broadcast this as i am sure it will be a great watch for blues everywhere, cheers.

Err yep. Go on then, justify the eagle and the 3 stars to me...

I haven't seen anyone defending the stars at all to be fair... it's the eagle causing a split, according to some know it all's only came about in 1997, when apparently that's a myth in itself.

I think there's a lot of posturing about being a bigger City fan for wanting a round badge without an eagle, which is just a backwards way of thinking. There's older fans that actually like the Eagle too yet some here are intent on forcing their opinions down peoples necks. I mean I don't particularly want a red rose anywhere near it but I've not attacked those that do, like somehow I'm more privileged than them for having a majority opinion.

Eagle stays for me dont give a fuck what anyone says I think it makes it look less plain and boring, nothing against it being changed to a round badge and switched around though.

Well said. I'm 43 not sure if that's old or young. ???

Whether or not the eagle was used in the past this wasn't the reason given in the June 1997 City Mag explaining the design of he badge.

Having no badge on the kit is more traditional than having any badge.

I meant reason for supporting the club :-)

Ha. My dad made sure I had absolutely no choice in the matter whatsoever mate!

Bloody hell mate I wouldn't take it so personally. I just think it'd be utterly demoralising to completely ignore our history and so many things that Manchester represents for the sake of some tacky shit like stars that are there for decoration. I wait to see how prominent of obscure the eagle reference form the 60s is but it doesn't feel very City to me. And I suspect Corky is right with what he says and if there is a link to the eagle in the 60s then it's purely coincidental which takes away the value of it being there

On top of that I think the eagle looks shit. Although that is in no way the point here for me. I don't agree in just throwing in meaningless things there just because they supposedlty look good (which I don;t think they do). Especially not when we've got so much to go at with such a long history and such a great City

Who's taking it personal I'm calling peoples behavior as I see it(it is posturing), I'll say it again it looks too plain without the eagle(which many people do think looks good) and like it or not it IS part of our history now so it is "City". It can actually be about more than the location, the club itself is old enough... there are no set rules about what a badge should be about(even though you seem to believe there are), only opinions. There's no reason we can't find a middle ground(ships, three lines and the eagle all happily co-existing on a round badge, some fairly decent efforts here already) but some people want it all their own way. One thing is for sure everyone is ok with the stars being fucked off.

Thought this deserved a bump. Change the crosses to dots and it's pretty hard to beat for me.

Great post. Eagle sets us apart. It has meaning to many and before 1958 it adorned the Manchester coat of arms as a nod towards the growing air industry. It was a signal for growth then and it coincides with incredible growth at our football club. While it got removed from the coat of arms, it should stay with us. If the owner likes them and its recognised globally already, way ahead of the ship and the canals, it should stay. The posturing points a good one, I grew up in the old badge, it never, ever provided the joy of the new one!

Everyone's ok with the stars being fucked off. We'll leave it at that.
