Club Badge (merged)

http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p035t406#play

blue tuesday great listen, learnt a lot about the badge. from every thing I've heard and seen i think we should base the design on the 1930s badge onwards. the ship, the 3 rivers, full manchester city name, round badge. The only other things id consider would be the date 1894 or possibly the manchester bee
Thanks for the comments on the show. Much appreciated. I only managed to get a fraction of the history of the badge out,but much more in the last talk today at 12.30 at City.

I like that too. The gold really stands out. :-)

I think this is pretty close to where we'll end up.The club WON'T drop the eagle. They will look to blend the present with our history.

I would like to see maybe a maroon border similar to the orange used by NYC, the stripes must be in red and gold, 1894, Manchester City Football Club in same size font in sky blue with a white/navy blue background. Job done.[/QUOTE]
That's the one for me, would like to see some more colour variations before final decision, but the design is spot on.

I would be incredibly surprised if the eagle is kept

If it is..it will have to be something very special to get the core support on board and let's face it..it will be the 40k odd season ticket holders who will be most vocal should the club balls it up

Thanks Pell.

I agree Bish, this core design is overwhelmingly the most popular. There's one or two who want to keep the stars and the eagle, but among Seasoncard holders I'm sure they will be out voted by a landslide.

Someone has added the formation date here and I don't mind that. I'm definitely leaning towards this colour scheme as well.

It looks nice and everything but it doesn't exactly speak of the furious pace of change at the club.

Nearly 200 pages of old badge recolours, I'm not sure if a globally renowned football club is likely to mostly revert to an 80 year old badge.

PSG, Arsenal, Juventus, Chelsea - all modernised and simplified when they came to rebrand.

There's a million new use cases the old badge designers couldn't even have anticipated.

I'd be shocked if it's any more complicated than:

A circle
A central element
Our name
(Possibly) Stripes

It's a branding exercise for a billion pound entity at the end of the day, and they'll ensure its most satisfying to its potential market, not just its current one.

Personally, I don't get the obsession with putting 1894 on it. Why do we need to include it? We know our history and it smacks of paranoia that fans feel the need to tell the world that we have really got a history.

Is it an obsession?

I think a few wouldn't mind the date...but most wouldn't be that arsed if it was omitted...it's not a core essential

As mentioned by @Shaelumstash before...there's a huge consensus for the roundel, inner shield, ship, 3 river shield, and Manchester City Football Club around the circle.

Anything else would be an add on bonus

That may be the consensus on the forum but have those people completed the questionnaire and is Bluemoon totally representative, for example the 1894 group have come out loud and clear saying the red rose, not the rivers. I'd urge everyone, no matter what your views to get your comments in to City. This is a great process, let's ensure all views reach those making the decisions. Cheers

I honestly don't get the red rose Gary and I'm 42 so it was pretty much my badge growing up

I want a nod to Manchester's history not Lancashires

The Rose is obsolete at the end of the day..the representation of the rivers..whilst a part of our past is a part of our present too

It's a no brainer for me

One of the reasons that people have been going on about a badge change over recent years (I've emailed the club in the past about it) is because of the elements of the current badge that are shit. The eagle is one of those

If people actually realised what the red rose is as well it might change their mind. It is the "Red Rose of Lancaster", not "Lancashire".

Lancaster is a little town over 55milrs away that has the square root of fuck all to do with our city.

The eagle is history.

I would definitely like to keep the Eagle somehow. I share a lot more recent history with the current badge that would be a shame to let go. The 99 play off final, move to the new ground, premier league wins including our first trophy in decades, all history that when im old and grey, I will look back on fondly. I would hate to look back on those times and see a badge that bears no relation to this period.

To be honest I think this forum is dominated by the older generation who hark back to Lee bell and summerbee, but there are hundreds of thousands of supporters globally that don't share the same attachment to that period in our history. This is like Labour who thought they had the election in the bag but all they were doing were talking to people like themselves who shared the same view so they got a distorted view of what was really going on amongst the electorate.

Keep the Eagle!!
Strangle the eagle.

No eagle.
No red rose.
No 1894.
And no fucking stars.

Just the ship and the three rivers in a roundel for me.

I wouldn't be apoplectic if we went back to a round badge - that is what nycfc went for after all - however I would really like us to keep the Eagle in some capacity, I don't see going back to a roundel badge as something that sees our club moving forward.

I personally prefer simple and easily recognisable, I really like the spurs badge for example, instantly recognisable and doesn't need to 'shout' Tottenham hotspur football club, people immediately make the association in their minds - the badge represents the brand.

It's a bit how some people remember things by creating an image in their minds rather than remembering the actual words.

Everyone here is harping back to a badge that has effectively been done. Time for a new fresh image for mcfc and surely that is what this is a about.

This is a classic case of you can't please all the people all of the time and there will be those who may be disappointed by the final result. That said city employ the best people and I expect that they will get this right.

Thanks. Having considered the many options and views, that's now my vote as well. Less is more. The roundel shown on the last few pages seems just about right. maybe with bees instead of numbers. Seems pretty clear that most want that type of version. If the ship is gold in colour, it will balance well when we have a golden star on the top for CL games [#dreamsofglory].

I agree. Its not an obsession & certainly not paranoia. I like the date. Its a reminder to me how long this great club has been a part of football in England. I would personally prefer the date at the bottom of the circle and switch Football Club to FC.

Be gutted if the eagle isn't incorporated into the badge somewhere, it's been part of our rise and winning the premier for the first time and never to be repeated in that manner again.

I hope precisely the opposite, the bird has absolutely nothing to do with our current success, football club or the city of Manchester. It's an absurd marketing conceit misguidedly included to appeal to computer game enthusiasts.

This should be on the badge.

The old cotton fields of Manchester (via Louisiana, West Indies etc) - fact is King Cotton abdicated long ago and Cottonopolis has moved on.

"... [Manchester] this famous great factory town. Dark and smoky from the coal vapours, it resembles a huge forge or workshop. Work, profit and greed seem to be the only thoughts here. The clatter of the cotton mills and the looms can be heard everywhere ...
— Johanna Schopenhauer, Sammtliche Schriften, Frankfurt, (1830)

A thick black smoke covers the city. The sun appears like a disc without any rays. In this semi-daylight 300,000 people work ceaselessly. A thousand noises rise amidst this unending damp and dark labyrinth ... the footsteps of a busy crowd, the crunching wheels of machines, the shriek of steam from the boilers, the regular beat of looms, the heavy rumble of carts, these are the only noises from which you can never escape in these dark half-lit streets ..
— Alexis de Tocqueville, Oeuvres Completes, (1835)

I remember my earliest view of Manchester. I saw the forest of chimneys pouring forth volumes of steam and smoke, forming an inky canopy which seemed to embrace and involve the whole place.
— W. Cooke Taylor, (1842)"
