Do you have anyone in mind? I personally think you need to get Giggs away from the place, as I can't see the value in him. There's no way he'll be able to bring those players into line - a Rag legend he may be, but I don't think modern day players will have the respect for him that some journalists and fans believe. Both Moyes and LVG have had problems with the playing staff (allegedly!), and Giggs must take some blame for that.
I heard someone the other day saying that LVG would have been better bringing his own backroom staff with him (van Basten was mentioned). What are your thoughts on that, and do you think it would have made a difference?
Here is what I posted on Giggs elsewhere:
If LVG gets sacked in the middle of the season with about 10-12 games left then we have nothing to lose.
I would have no issues giving Giggs till the end of the season.
If he is nothing special, I would encourage him to join another PL side as a manager to show us what he can do.
I'm still surprised he did not jump at the chance of managing Swansea.
The issue with Giggs is that no one actually knows what he does or what's his status with other coaches.
Does he scout opposing teams? Does he coach players? Does he make tactics?
It can be one of 2 things:
1.
Moyes and LVG never wanted Giggs. He was forced on them. They don't take his advice.
This paints Giggs in a bad light in the sense that he has been unable to convince 2 coaches of his value to the backroom staff.
If he can't convince his peers, how will he convince 25 other players?
2.
Giggs is an active contributor to team tactics, player analysis and transfers. LVG and Moyes take his advice seriously.
I don't want him to be the next manager then.
Either ways, he will benefit from managing elsewhere.
Moyes bought his own backroom staff and some key coaches at MU quit to join elsewhere.
Perhaps they were pushed out or left thinking that they would not progress.
That went well :)
LVG conducts all his training himself and its either his way or the highway.
I'm not sure whether the coaching staff around him matters as long as they execute what he tells them.
Don't think backroom staff would make a difference.
