With respect, the city has not moved as so if it was geographically in Lancashire before the GMC was formed, then it still is now. It's fairly basic logic. I don't know why so many people struggle with the concept. I am Mancunian, Lancastrian, English and British. I am not sure what is difficult to understand and accept about that. I have spent most of my life [from birth] in West Didsbury. It's always been in Lancashire and not Cheshire, for example. Anyway, I have enough of this. You can all believe what you want.
Lancashire is an arbitrary county created by the ruling powere of the day. Just as Greater Manchester is an area created by the ruling powers of it's day. There's no difference.
People seem to think Lancashire is an area that is set in stone by god, never to be altered. It's a dangerous viewpoint to have, and there are many conflicts around the world based on this flawed belief.
Unless cut off by water, all borders, countries, regions, etc are imaginary borders drawn up by human beings to help to administer and rule a certain area. Manchester as a city used to be included in an area the ruling human beings at the time called Lancashire. The ruling human beings now determine it is no longer in Lancashire, I don't understand why some people have such a hard time accepting that.
Manchester is not in Lancashire anymore. No matter how much that upsets some people, it's simply a fact.
The rose being on the badge is fine, it represents our history. But the fact remains, Manchester is no longer in Lancashire, and most likely never will be again.
