Longest Span of Success - May shock rival fans!

I posted this on my facebook earlier while BM was down. It may interest a few Blues and surprise those that believe our club has 'no history':

Interesting historical stat for mcfc & trophy success. Yesterday's win means that City have the 2nd longest span between their 1st major success & their most recent in English football. City's span is 112 years - 1904 (FAC) to yesterday.

No other Premier League team has a better span of success (though see Villa stat below).

Blackburn Rovers have the best span from 1st success to most recent = 118 years (1884 to 2002). Villa went from 1887 (Fac) to 2008 (Intertoto Cup) which equals 121 years, but whether the Intertoto counts as a major trophy is debatable. If it is then City are 3rd overall and 2nd in terms of PL clubs. Other spans between 1st success and most recent include - Spurs 107 years, Everton 104, Liverpool 111, Mufc 105, Chelsea 60 years (first success 1955) and Arsenal 85 years (first success 1930). Does this mean anything? It depends on your view, but those that suggest MCFC have no history may want to consider the facts. Facebook.com/garyjames4
 
I have a little story which is, I think, directly relevant to the point you're making, Gary. Many years ago I was browsing in a bookshop when I came across a football book by Ian StJohn. This was the time when the Saint and Greavesie had their rival to Football Focus on Saturday lunchtime, so it clearly pre-dated the birth of real football. It wasn't the most erudite tome of football history but for ten minutes it was worth a look. Part of it was a section on which club has given its supporters best value for money. The measure he used was to look at how many finals, titles etc a club had contested/won and in which years these were. His conclusion was that fans of Manchester City and Everton had had the best deal: in City's case fans had had a trip to Wembley at least once every decade in the twentieth century with the exception of those decades in which the competitions had been suspended because of a world war! The run came to an end obviously in the 90s but the book was published in 93 at the very latest. It's an interesting and revealing viewpoint - and we're at it again after a (relatively) short break!

Actually, City & Arsenal were the only teams to play at the old Wembley in every decade of the 20th Century from its construction (except in City's case the 1940s, but there was a war!).
 
I'm calling bullshit on this. Gary James........ruining football stats!
 
I'm sure we went to Wembly in 99...

Gillingham, horlock, dickov, losing until final minutes, weaver wheeling away... Or perhaps that was a dream

Yes, that's included in the Wembley stat - 1920s: 1926; 1930s: 1933 & 1934; 1940s: war on and our regional finals were not at Wembley; 1950s: 1955 & 1956; 1960s: 1969: 1970s: 1970, 74 & 76: 1980s: 1981 (x2) & 1986; 1990s: 1999. Of course, MUFC didn't play at Wembley pre WW2 for anyone wondering.
 
I mentioned 99, because bluesincehyderoad said in previous post that we didn't go to Wembley in the 90's. Perhaps he meant the 00's
 
This should be printed in the FA/FL yearbook - every year. Then maybe the non believers of other so called BIG clubs , their fans really , who say we have "NO ' ISTERY"

Good point. We should contact the SKY Sports yearbook and the Nationwide Football Annual suggesting they do a "first" & "Last" success page. I did one in the 1991 Pride Of Manchester, it helps to show the history of a sport/rivalry etc.
 
The 107 year span between our first FA Cup win in 1904 and our latest in 2011 is also a record, I believe, for that trophy . United could equal it this season. The FA Cup is the most historic trophy ... but we've no history!
 
Yesterday was our 18th major honour. 8th most in England. Everton, villa and Spurs have all won 24. Quite possible we will win 6 more trophies than all then in the next ten years.
 
We have won 4 league cups .
Arsenal only have 2 league cups .
And Everton have never won the league cup .
Making history all the time Manchester City .
This beats the years we had Peter Swales being the chairman .
