Well done boss

No. I think the opposite. I think the inuries have forced him to 'manage'. Kompany is the one I'd accept but only down to him preferring Demichelis to Denayer imo. I blame him 100% for that.

I think he's utterly useless & would still lose at home to Liverpool & Leicester irrespective of who is fit. We saw Yaya humilliated by Fellaini last season yet constabtly pkayed in the samd role this season. I'm not even convinced he won't do something ridiculous in the next round of Champs Lg games & blow 4th purely by that kind of selection. I'm hoping Tues night's selection/performance was intentional but am worried that it's down to injuries. But even if we do stick with the plan in the Champs Lg, I fully expect him to risk everything in the Prem with some completely stupid selections & i recon it will be upto DeBruyne etc to rescue the season. If they do the biz we have no problems. If Pellegrini has to do anything at all we will miss top 4 imo. But the players can see the finish line now so hopefully they will drag us over it.

I think some of our players are vastly underrated by fans & media alike because they have never played inder a genuine top manager for City.

Fair enough, we disagree, we move on.

Roll on us winning the CL and finishing top 4 and roll on Pep.

Don't have much energy or time to spare for this debate but I have no doubt that injuries have been an absolute killer. The frustration for me with Pellegrini is that he is quite clearly capable of doing things differently and more pragmatically but stubbornly chooses not to. If he had set the team up consistently in the fashion we saw vs PSG, we could quite easily have made a better fist of the league. However, let us not forget he was not employed to produce a side that plays like Leicester do: he was brought in to try and follow the strategic brief of how we want to play and win and this is a long-term approach. I would expect that if the club, as embodied by the likes of the Chief Exec and DoF, felt a more pragmatic approach being employed to get things won this season waht they wanted, they would have given the manager that direction or the (early) boot.

Regardless of the foregoing, I think we should have been more pragmatic more often but we haven't. Let's see what Pep does next season; I suspect he won't be trying to emulate Leicester.

Pep will play whatever way is neccessary to get a result, with the players available. That doesn't mean it will work but it's actually trying to do the best you can which counts imo. Everyone on here knew we were in trouble when we saw his lineup v Liverpool. In the final however, he had a plan & it worked (until his substitution).

No way is he told to play one way in a cup final but another in a league game. It's him.

I may be in a minority, and I would agree we haven't been tearing teams apart like we did in much of Pellegrini's first season and we haven't shown quite the killer instinct this year, but I really think a lot of the problem this year has been bad luck.

Firstly, look at the injuries we've had. We have effectively had 1 or more of our 5 most influential players out through a large proportion of this season (Vinny, Silva, Yaya, KDB and Sergio).

But can anyone honestly say that we wouldn't have at least 9 more points if we hadn't had such dreadful referees turning up week-in-week-out? OK, all clubs suffer bad decisions, but City seem to suffer more than most (in general) and I honestly can't remember a season (even for us) where so many absolutely critical decisions have gone against us. You could argue that we should maybe not be in a situation where such fine margins make a difference, but it's really made a huge difference.

i keep saying the he had little alternative in leaving yaya and demichelis out, yaya will be back playing and pelligrini will play him in the defensive midfield two role yaya struggles to cope with.
playing an aging demichelis against lighting fast forwards was always a disaster in the making which he did against leicester resulting in us falling for the old three card trick

Just seen some good stuff on Pep. Different world win lose or draw. But not unbeatable imo. I don't rate Bayern's players as highly as some do. I think it's the system(s) managers moreso. If we have to play them & we do use a tight setup imo we have the two best players from either club. DeBruyne & Aguero.

He gives you organisation like a Mourinho/Simeone side but lets them play in the final third as well.

Cant wait.

Agree. And he will also be pragmatic if the players available demand it. But I think we can beat him. I think we have a genuine chance against any of the teams remaining. If we play with the same kind of attitude/ team selection that is.

That's not what I said.

I think youre dead right we've been completely rudderless for 3 years now. No plan, players obviously pick themselves, bony obvious gets to vote to play twice cos he's a big bastard.
MP May aswell be tucked up in bed on match day for all he contributes. Waste of time.
That said, I can't can't quite work out were to apportion credit for the clubs acheivements in the past 3 years. You know the ones, even this so called fucking shit year rates in my top 10 favourites since I supported city. This shit year that could finish with a little cup, top 2,3 or 4 finish and possibly a big cup in May. We could only dream of this 10 years ago.
MP take a bow when the time comes, you have already become a benchmark for other managers to follow at city. Win or lose in the semi, his name will be sung loudly at the final game.

Even by those who are glad to get rid of him. I joined in the Pellegrini song on Tuesday.

Me too, I don't disagree time for change, but I wonder whether he would get a little more support if we had announced Brendan Rodgers say as our next manager.

IF he wins the champions league or reaches the final AND we secure the champs league 3rd spot, I'll applaud him on the way out the door, but I'll still see his tenure as a missed opportunity.

Yes, the champs league has been the big thing we've been judged on, but lets not forget it's a cup contest and it's one that Roberto Di Matteo has won, United won one due to poor penalties by their opponents and Benitez completely fluked in a contest they deserved to go out of twice that season but for ropey reffing and linesmen. It's a bloody difficult competition to progress in, but it's a tournament that can and in my mind has been won in the past by those that didn't deserve to win it. Now I can't see UEFA doing us any favours and if we win it credit where it's due, but I certainly would see a normal title charge as harder to achieve than a CL win.

But no matter what, this seasons failure to challenge for the title must be what he's ultimately judged on. We reinforced. Sterling, DeBruyne, Otamendi. Added Delph, lost Milner. sent Denayer out on loan despite him looking ready to go. We should have and were expected to push the big guns for the title. They all collapsed. A title win will never be easier than this season. Ever. But we stuttered and fell and never got going. We played a struggling Bony over a talented Kelechi and this cost us just as much as playing Demichelis.

Yet, we could finish with our best ever season.

Is it bitter to say we should have done more, or just pragmatic?

The most disappointing thing for me is that in 3 years he hasn’t brought through a single youth/EDS player through into the first team (I don’t count Iheanacho, as he was never really a proper academy player). In fact, in those three seasons we haven’t even had a youth player play more than 60 minutes in a league game. And that all culminated with the absolute nonsense of a team selection against Chelsea in the cup, where he decided to give 5 players their debut at the same time.

He gets loads of support. This is the place to cyber slaughter him rather than in real life.

I think Brenton is a bit of an unfair comparison to Pep btw.

Lucky he doesn't seem the type to go on a forum.;)

These days my feelings to Pellers oscillate from downright frustration to great fondness. For the past two weeks it's mostly the later.
