Nicolas Otamendi 2015/16 performances

Ah come on, if they're under instruction to play it then they should keep their focus and play it.

Problem is, as a player, you're not going to agree with everything the manager says and when your manager has shown himself to be as incompetent as ours, that makes you question the tactics even more.

So you take it upon yourself to play differently to the rest of the team? Nah mate.

No mate, he probably sensed danger and wanted to deal with it, can't be natural for a defender to go 'you know, i'll just let Ronaldo get a free run into the box and hope that he's offside.' He's not the only defender that done it last night, Sagna played Modric onside and theres been numerous other occasions with different players this year. Sometimes you just have to say the system is flawed, which it is.

Sagna didn't play him onside.

That was Otter, again.

No it wasn't, it was Sagna, Otamendi got out on time, that time it was Sagna who was slow.

But I wont blame either in a flawed system.

EDIT: My bad, it was Otamendi.

lol that screen freeze pic on the previous post must have been taken from one hell of a funny angle

Look at the freeze frame I posted above

Yeah my bad, its still a shit system though.

I mean look where Clichy is in that still, thats suicidal defending playing a line that high, I just find it hard to blame any of the defenders playing in that system. I mean who's filling in for Mangala in that still? Why do we defend with such a ridiculous line? (Even Sagna and Otamendi in that still aren't back in line with their teammates. Plenty of questions need to be asked and a lot of the answers lie at the managers door. I said last night theres a reason we've spent over £100m on centre backs and it isn't because of the players.

I do agree with that though

His tackling style is similar to Fernandinho's.

They don't mark tightly and hold off until they spot a loose touch or the opportunity to seize the ball and then go all out for it. It works in midfield because you don't have to worry so much about the defensive line or leaving your partner to mark two.

And I'm not suggesting we play Otamendi in midfield.

If we had defended as deep as Atletico did the previous night I am not sure Real would have scored all night as there would have been no space behind us. That said you need 10 players who are prepared to graft and last night we only had around five who were

We had 9 who were.

He's awful. Really, really bad. Spends the majority of the game on his arse and couldn't pass water.

I'd rather we persisted with Mangala over him.

Personally I think there's a player there, I actually think the same about Mangala. I think suicidal defensive tactics are what has exposed both these players.

On second thoughts 8, who do you think didn't try their best?
I didn't say they didn't try their best, I said they didn't look like they were grafting. Look at how Atletico would be sprinting back to defend when they lost the ball rather than jogging. IMO I don't think Aguero, KDB, Yaya, Navas, Sagna, were grafting as hard as they could

I'm not a fan of his. I hate the way he goes to ground when he makes a tackle. He is incapable of staying on his feet. It looks good when he wins a tackle but when he doesn't he either gives away a free kick or they just skip past him and he's left on his arse unable to recover and out of that phase of play.
He's been a bigger disappointment than Mangala.
I have this image of Otamendi arriving everywhere he goes by sliding in. Going to the toilet? He slides in through the door feet first on his arse. I'm always surprised when I see the players arriving on tunnel cam and he isn't sliding through the door with a look of surprise on his face.

Don't get why you have Navas and Sagna in there.
