The next Prime Minister of Britain

Yep. Unfortunately, as Labour have shown, the party membership will typically be more extreme than the MPs and general population. And now the Tory party membership have got the chance to vote in a PM who would never have been chosen by the majority of the public. Obviously it wouldn't be the first time that a PM wasn't directly voted for, but it seems a bit dodgy to me that basically the entire future direction of the country at such a critical time is going to be decided exclusively by Tory party members.
I quite like the idea that everyday party members carry more weight than the overpaid MP's plus Tory party membership is only £2.09 per month and my union dues are about a tenner

Leadsom is a fucking shambles. What she said in the interview was poor, her reaction to try to sort out the mess was even worse. She's only truly been in the spotlight for a couple of weeks and she doesn't appear up to it at all. God knows how she would stand up to the proper test of running the country when she doesn't seem able to negotiate the first couple of weeks of the leadership election without things unravelling. She seems to lack the composure and gravitas required IMO.
Couldn't agree more, and her reaction is what you might expect from a petulant 12 year old girl.

The next PM has the biggest and most important job of any PM in the last 60 years. They have to negotiate a way through the EU situation, keep the UK together and keep services which are at breaking point going. The country is divided and we need a strong leader to try and restore some unity.

And Leadsome is in with a chance of getting the job. Fucking hell.

Normally this is fine, when you choose the candidate and then have an election, or even in the case of Gordon Brown, where it was pretty well known before the election that he would take over. But it's a bit different when you've got 4 years left in power and the responsibility of negotiating an EU exit, and it's pretty much impossible for either candidate to now fulfill the manifesto that people voted for. To be fair, even the Tory bloke on Question Time the other night said that there should be another general election between the Tory leadership election and us starting the process of leaving the EU. I think it's important that whoever is chosen by the Tory members has a mandate from the entire country.

I read that she would be the first PM who had not previously held at least one of the posts of either Chancellor of the Exchequer, Foreign Secretary, Home Secretary or Leader of the Opposition. And it shows. She could get the job and be faced with a major crisis (eg a terrorist act) on her first day and be totally unprepared to deal with it.

Yeah but dude she's a mum so let's stick to what's important here and not get sidetracked with trivialities like financial crisis or terrorist attacks. Andrea is a mum and her ability to be a mum is what impresses me.

Leadsom has only been in the spotlight a couple days and is cracking up, she's not right for it at all, absolutely no way she'll be PM.

Her comments in the interview are pretty disgusting when you consider the circumstances.

She definitely wouldn't be able to handle it. Judging by the last few days, she doesn't seem to be any better equipped to handle the things that will come with a position of huge responsibility than your average punter in the street. She is clearly way out of her depth. What I don't understand is how there have been so many Conservative MPs happy to back her to take over when to all intents and purposes it is at best going to be a huge gamble. Mind you, presumably her supporters are the Brexit side of the party and they seem to like to take huge gambles when it comes to massively important decisions.

Cracking up in public won't necessarily harm Leadsom. Our politics no longer have much to do with substance. It's more like the X factor where has to be an emotional back story.

Today's press report that Leadsom's campaign team are happy with the coverage of her CV because it highlights she's worked in business.

I agree with about Loathsom's comments but Tory activists might like them. 150,000 Tory members will decide on the next PM, whatever we may think.

And these are (were) the people persuading us how bad the EU was. Both she and Boris were Europhiles until they spotted a political opportunity.

Good she has pulled out, talk about inexperienced
At least she had the sense to realise that she was out of her depth I suppose, plenty of people don't and just plough on with things when they definitely shouldn't. You'd have thought her colleagues would have realised it was very possible that she wasn't up to it and wouldn't have voted her through to the final two in the first place.

Unless it was to stymie one of the other candidates. As it is, the only plausible candidate will be elected unopposed. Who appointed May as PM will be an interesting question to answer - the media, the MPs? It sure as hell wasn't the prescribed manner.

Davros as new PM.
