John Stones

We have tried to instigate the passing game through the back with little success in the past, Stones will change this.

If we knock the ball long it is always a 50/50 challenge and normally the big man wins, not Sergio.

Play the ball out to nifty midfield and we play to Sergios strengths.

Good signing if we do sign him, been impressed with Tosin but not as much Denayer TBH.

Tosin will go on loan and we sell Denayer and more than likely Mangala but he could be back up.

I'm sure Tosin would have kept Belgium in the Euros had he been eligible to be thrown in at right back after being sat on his arse for a month.

Given Pep's apparent desire for Kroos, he obviously disagrees.

That's because he loves Kroos.

If he thought we really needed another central midfielder, we'd be in for one. There's no links to anyone except Kroos which most accept would be an opportunistic thing.

Pep's not going to leave a hole in the squad down to if Kroos becomes available.

We've been linked with every CM under the sun this summer..

Gundogan. Fernando, Dihno, Yaya, Nasri, Delph. I think that's covered.
Gundogan is good enough.

Nasri isn't a CM.

Fernandinho will be playing deeper most likely from what Pep has said.

Yaya, Delph and Fernando are limited or restricted by age (Yaya).

I don't think we are anywhere near covered, we want to be on the same level as Real, Barcelona, Bayern not Utd and Liverpool.

Anyway, we are derailing this thread sorry. As a side I think we will sign another CM whether that is Kroos or not ;)

I'm not counting some gossip article in the Sun as a link.

Everyone we've gone after this season has been covered in plenty of depth by loads of sources, and the ITK's.

Gundogan & Kroos have been the only ones. There was some talk of Coric and Thiago for a while, but nothing serious. A couple of tweets about Pep wanting Kimmich or Weigl back in May.

There's been no serious links to anyone.

We'll probably only play 1 defensive midfielder at a time, and that could be Delph, Fernando, Fernandinho or even potentially Stones.

The others could all play the less defensive roles in a Pep side, as a lot of the defensive cover comes from narrow full backs.

Why are they limited, or restricted by age, compared to Kroos ? I can understand it if someone thinks Kroos is a better passer etc (debatable in Yaya's case imo) but he moves like a Dalek going up a staircase.

All 3 would lap him on two circuits of the pitch.

I meant limited as in, have no composure on the ball, can't pass for shit etc, where as Yaya has been caught up by age and his legs aren't there anymore. Didn't phrase it well sorry.

Weigl was "ITK backed".

As have players who the club said we aren't interested in...

Gossip columns hold as much water these days.

As for our current CM options, he's right, it's not up to standard. If having Mangala, Kompany, Otamendi, Denayer possibly Toisin means going after Stones then I don't see why the even poorer quality of CM we already have means we're "covered"

You're right about Pep hinting this but it seems like a waste to me. Dinho is so confident, so effective in attack, and we have plenty of CB's anyway if Stones comes.

I understand that re passing, but you don't pick Fernando or Delph to do Kroos' job, they are there for energy or in Fernando's case tackling, so for balance, you wouldn't replace either in the squad with Kroos, you would replace someone else.

Imo, Yaya would still give Kroos 20 yards & beat him to the ball over 50. This age thing keeps being raised as a reason for Kroos over Yaya, but Kroos is less mobile than Yaya so I really don't get it.

If people think he's a better footballer, fair enough, but imo Kroos will never get anywhere near Yaya's athleticism between now & when they both retire.

No ITK said we were getting Weigl.

And if you really think what ITK's post on here is as reliable as a gossip column then you're a proper tit. They get a couple wrong, gossip columns get 1 in 100 correct.

Yes, ignore the point you initially argued. Well done.

We're signing Stones despite having equal to talent and bodies at that position than CM, a position we're apparently "covered" in.

A CM is needed.

To avoid Fantasyireland's warnings. Let me bring it back to Stones. To understand the difference BTW the 2.

Stones is a natural passer of the ball. This improves ball retention capacity greatly. Non of our current CBs have that ability. Hence why CB is not 'covered.' Absent a Stones/Laporte. In midfield we have 4 superior possession players (Gundogan, Yaya, Nasri and Silva). Hence when I say covered, I mean relative to what Pep shows an appreciation for i.e players who posses and keep possession naturally. Yes, Kroos epitomizes that, but this does not mean that quality is lacking. However at CB the qualityis in fact lacking hence the Stones pursuit and yet no serious CM pursuit.

All well and good but reaction times also play a part in a players decline, yaya isn't as reactionary as he once was, the body doesn't follow the brain... Everything else I agree with, however, kroos has never relied on athleticism, he can turn on a sixpence without moving 3 steps!!

Mate I think you need to let the Yaya thing go. You sound like Don King in 1980 trying to sell tickets to see Ali fight Larry Holmes. It's the same name, he looks kind of the same, but the legs have gone, he just doesn't have it any more.

So if Pep wants someone comfortable with the ball at his feet in nets, I can say we're covered because we have Silva?

Because Nasri is not a CM, while Delph and Fernando are dross. People seem to be settling, which has been our problem all too often transfer wise.

We used to be "covered" when Milner could play there.
