If ever there was a case for a loan with an option to buy its Bony to Everton IMO. They can see if he works out (I think he will with game time) and they have the money to pay his wages in the meantime.

If I was Everton I'd be playing nicey nicey with City to get first dibs of castoffs, loans, academy products. Add them to what they have themselves and they'd be challenging Spurs for CL places.

I am not too fussed if we don't sign Stones. He is a good footballer, but is far from being a great defender.

Think it's the other way round

We should playing nicey nicey hoping they take him off our hands

We can play as hard ball as we like, they have no need to sell him so it will be their price or no price. He is a commodity to them that someone wants to buy. The fact he wants to join us, goes against us in terms of the dog wagging the tail

How have we out-priced the competition? As far as I was aware, there has been no one else sniffing around other than Chelsea last season. With the TV money, other clubs can afford him if they want

I think we will get him, but we will not be the ones deciding the fee

Mourinho wanted a new CB at United and bought that Bailly. Chelsea are after that CB from Napoli. Barcelona signed Umtiti.

That suggests that the clubs who have shown an interest in Stones are after a CB but haven't gone for him.

So either we have already agreed a deal with Stones and got rid of any competitors or they do not value him as high as we and Everton do.

Also, Everton still need to protect their asset. If he drops into the last 2 years of his contract then his value will plummet. Therefore, the decision is do they sell him or try and keep him long term when Stones has already made it clear that he wants out.

We have made made some serious inroads with this negotiation. With all the rumoured interest there could have been a bidding war. Yet we are in a position where we can at least try and negotiate a fee.

If we get him for £45 mil plus add ons I'd say that is a very good job well done from Txiki.

But the problem is mate, pep is fussed and can clearly see what the few on here can't, it was seen by the eye gouger and rest assured the opinion of perhaps the two best managers at the mo is the direction I would follow over the tv viewing from which most are basing their opinions on.

As a defender he would be £15M normally, should stay well away at teh numbers talked about. I don't know why City pay stupid prices for centre backs, and then they don't perform.

I agree we will no doubt end up buying him, but I maintain it will be Everton calling the shots.

Not sure about the bit highlighted, can you elaborate?

If Mourinho wanted him, Chelsea still wanted him and we do, then it will drive his price up. Everton would sell to the highest bidder.

Yet it seems that Txiki has pursuaded Stones to join us. Therefore, the other clubs haven't got involved meaning we can at least negotiate with Everton.

To put it simply, if another club offered Everton what they wanted then we wouldn't be in a position to negotiate.

If he feels he wants him then he should tell Txixi to spend the £50m.

Managers are not always right on everything. The best just happen to get much more decisions right than wrong.

I don't think I am alone in believing Stones has to improve in his defensive skills.

Think there was a lot of turmoil with Everton re Martinez, last season. Baines and Coleman were way off their standards, too.
Sure he made some high profile rickets and the defensive side of his game needs work. But this can happen under the right system
and manager. Which City will just happen to have. He's the best centre back, footballing wise, i've seen in a long while and think
he'll be a fantastic addition. A few on here will be eating their words.

Not a wind up. Van Dijk last season for £13M was blindingly obvious, but we won't we pay more than double for worse players.

We should have signed him instead of Mangala that summer. Would go and offer Southampton £30m now

IMO paying £40m-£45m or £50m. is a huge difference.

I'm sure we don't want to give Stones the title of world's most expensive defender. This would put a great deal of pressure on him and the media would destroy him for any mistake, we wouldn't hear the end of it, he would be on every front page as soon as he costs a goal. Even if hes playing great, the media will be waiting for that one little mistake to destroy him. Its a lose-lose situation for us and the player if we pay £50m+.

I'm hoping we stand firm on our valuation of Stones even if it means waiting till the last day of the window or not getting him at all. I do think that if we wait, Stones could push for a deal as deadline day approaches.
