United away - pre-match thread

Just watched the sick swan vid and would loved to have seen that team going to the swamp. We looked strong and tall and had big personalities all over the field that day. We would've been a good match for the current scum squad. My fear is we'll play well in patches but gradually the rags will dominate with their height advantage and wear us down. I'm dreading crosses and corners and Maureen will surely be planning to attack our weakest areas ..the full backs. Its going to be a tough day for our defenders thats for sure.

The thing about attacking our fullbacks is what leaves the opposition badly exposed. Ibra and Rooney aren't exactly blessed with pace these days either. They'll be left lumping hopeful balls over the top IMO.

I wouldn't take a draw if you offered it to me now, mainly because I think we'll win. Just woke up from a dream in which we beat them 7-0, so...

You might say it's just a dream but my dreams did predict Navas scoring vs Everton ;)

What I hope we will see:
Bravo
Zaba - Stones - Otamendi - Kolarov
Fernandinho - Gundogan
Sterling - Silva - Nolito
KDB

However I'm very afraid we might see Fernando, Iheanacho, & perhaps even Willy in order to avoid making the derby a first start for Gundogan & Bravo. As far as Kelechi goes, as much as we enjoy him, and the lad is a natural finisher, he doesn't have the quality on the ball to lead the line himself for 90mins against united in our current style of play.

Also, what's the prognosis on Sane?

I believe both teams will have their periods on top in the game and create chances. United almost certainly will come from set pieces and crossed balls and try to exploit the supposed weaknesses we have currently in the air. I'm sure if we know, Pep knows and will be employing something to try to counter it. We too will have more of the ball I suspect and create chances and it all boils down to who takes them when they come. I'm hoping Kuns likely absence, Kev not quite finding his range yet and Sterlings wayward finishing don't cost us dearly. On a good day we could batter them as I don't think they are that mobile across the middle. Its an interesting battle of styles.

Every rag i've spoken to are adamant they'll beat us easily and are amazed when i tell them i think we'll do them

Such a contrast in styles for this game.

United are already looking a typical Mourinho team, very robotic and efficient and we are showing signs of the Guardiola style paying off with our total football approach.
Tough one to call for me, this is the biggest United team we'll have faced in a long time and I think that is exactly what Mourinho will try and take advantage of.

Part of me thinks we might go there and put in a beautiful performance, where they just cant get near us. Another part of me thinks they'll turn into a horrible, stop, start game and sneak a result from set pieces etc.

United barely beat Hull, I'm not too worried.

Off topic- I assume there's going to be a player of the month vote on here soon, City have released their but only three options as always meaning Silva and Kolarov are both unfairly left out IMO.

We have to play a striker I think, none of our attacking mids would be able to play the false 9 role effectively against a big team.

Basically need to take our chances. They will get chances, as they'll be lumping balls into the box non stop. I also think they'll get a soft, 'holding in the box' penalty...

Hopefully we don't fluff a load early on and get frustrated and let them pinch it....

I know a lot here have Aleks LB for this one, but i wouldn't fancy that with Valencia's pace down their right... Clichy all day.... Stones in the middle, with Otta as he's strong in the air and won't let Big nose bully him...

Am a bit concerned that with Otamendi playing twice in South America and getting back, what Thursday(?) might make playing Saturday lunchtime too risky. Can't imagine Kompany would be thrown back in without any minutes under his belt.

I suspect this game may come a little too early for us, and we could lose by a couple.

Make no mistake, this is bigger than the recent FA Cup Final for them, an opportunity to lay down a marker in front of a giddy crowd and a thirst to try and fool the wider watching public that not only are they relevant again, but that they also got the better manager.

Mourinho is a front-runner, always has been. He knows it could continue the mental facade in his squad they can go on to win the title this season.

The tactics will be there for all to see, sit in, defend the line of the 18-yard area, cut out our crossing (just like Chelsea used to) and go long and quick into Ibrahimovic, trying to do us in the air and at set-pieces.

We defended brilliantly there last season and will need to do so again.

We could well lose the battle, but fancy us to win the war, once we hit our straps.

Fine margins and all that, and the one thing we can be certain of, Pep will have our tactics and approach spot on. Everything else is down to fine margins.

Completely disagree Mr Hairdoo...I think we will tear them a new one
