Spurs vs City post match

Tough day. After such an incredible start to the season the past 4 games have been a bit sloppy. Still early days and I'm still confident this is going to be a special season.

I'm just happy we now have a coach who will dissect to the single pass where it went wrong. We also knew we weren't able to change as many players in one window as we needed too. Not worried here.

What daft twat thought we'd have too much for Spurs at Spurs?

(awaits long list ;)
Not looking back----but I met Gary Owen and he said City would win fairly convincingly too.

Brendan110 was predicting a spanking for Spurs and instructed us on feminine hygienie.

Firstly, I'd like to say that Spurs fully deserved their win today and there is no shame in getting beat by the better side on the day. Pochentino is building something very special there and if they keep up them sort of performances, they will be there or thereabouts come May.

Secondly, that was the kind of performance I expected from us at this stage of the season. The shock is how well we have done so far. There was only two players in the starting 11 who wasn't here last season and I thought the performance was a typical one from last season. We seemed to look slow and laboured compared to Spurs and lost a number of second balls. To be fair to Pep though, it was always going to take a while to adapt. It's no coincidence that aside from us (up until this week), the three stand out sides this season are Spurs, Liverpool and Arsenal, clubs who have been drilled into their managers system for a lot longer than 2 months.

What I will say though is that it was a very naïve set up from Pep for the second time in a week. When we are playing sides who will press us high or going to intimidating places in the CL, it is vital that our game management is spot on. You cannot afford to concede sloppy goals at this level and win the game. What I noticed about both the Celtic and Spurs game is that for the last 15 mins in both halfs they looked shot. Their high press had faded and we had the opportunity to impose ourselves and take advantage. However, the fact we had gifted them goals meant they had something to protect. We need to improve at 'weathering the storm' and making us hard to score against because Spurs found it far too easy to get at our back 4 today. Also, when you look at the starting 11 on the pitch from today, Aguero aside, I couldn't see where the goals were going to come from. Sterling who is much improved this season, is still not what I would class as a regular goalscorer and he was our second biggest threat. Navas, Silva and the two Ferns offer virtually zero in the sense of scoring and the Spurs backline had a field day defending.

It is all well and good sticking to his style of football, but its crucial he has the players to do it. Fernando and Kolarov are accidents waiting to happen when put under pressure. The weaknesses in the squad from last season in the FB and CM area have not been addressed.

I would not be at all surprised if Silva was dropped from the side in the big away games when everyone is fully fit.

--------------------------- Bravo ---------------------------
Sagna ----------- Komps ----------- Stones --------- Clichy
------------------ Dinho --------- Gundo ------------------
Sane -------------------- KDB ---------------------- Sterling
-------------------------- Kun ---------------------------------

That side would be absolutely frightening on the counter attack and KDB was awesome in the style Wolfsburg had. That would definitely give sides like Arsenal, Spurs and Liverpool something to think about when they press us high up the pitch.

What a few fans need is to regain our perspective. On July 1st, if someone told me we'd be top of the league, second in the UCL group stage and through in the cup having scored 33 goals, only lost one and drawn one game, dominated the derby at OT, seen goals from Clichy, Aleix García and Delph, witnessed the resurrection of Aleks Kolarov, watched Fernandinho outclass the world's most expensive player, gotten five youngsters promoted to the first team, declared Nolito officially the bargain of the summer, heard Pep destroy Dimitri Seluk and had Sterling voted POTM, and generally scaring the shit out of pretty much every other PL fan, pundit and manager, I'd have gone to bed a very happy guy.

Life is good if you're a City fan. The simple fact is this: you can't win 'em all.

Let's be honest pep started the wrong team,as he did on Wednesday. He'll learn from it.
That said spurs were lucky just as celtic were.
On We go.

Not the end of the world. First loss and its took us til october to get it away to a side that is flying at is clearly more drilled as theyve been working as a unit for longer, this is peps 1st season.

On another day we could of got a few goals from the chances kelechi and aguero haf but shit happens. Defensively we were shocking and worryingly similar to last season in that respect, kolorov and zab (unfortunately) scare the life out of me when they're our full backs. However I thought stones had a fantastic game under pressure.

No doubt we'll pick up when our injuries are fit again especially but the worrying thing for me is that teams will watch this game and the candles of scotland game and all go for the same tactics as spurs have done and just get in our faces and press us high. Which works with our fullback problem.

I have no doubt that Pep is aware of this and will set us up differently for different types of opposition domestically and in CL. He's not a MP so I'm sure he's got more than one plan up his sleeve that wont get sussed by every team in the league. A depressing reality, though; is that we are now everyones cup final and fully expect the likes of Boro, west brom, burnley etc to have their game of the year against us.... same with our challengers ie liverpool and arse. Even if they have a dip in form with injuries, they up it 130% for the city game but thats how it works im affraid.

Onwards and upwards, forget and move on.

Absolutely, completely, correct.

Sorry 'Blues'. Not getting all this slagging off Kolorov. Up until two games ago ALL were saying he'd been a revelation and our most improved player!... Second half showed our fighting spirit. Just wasn't our day!

I think we will beat Spurs at our place & do ok vs the others over the season.

Been to the swamp, Stoke & whl already at the starf of October & are top of the league.

Otamendi is a bit less of a problem than Kolarov I think, in that he defends a lot so even when he's shite, his stats are good, as he wins balls. But if all 3 decide to have a shitter on the same day, it's fucked.

Never wanted Stones but I hold my hands up. I think that was the best game I've ever seen him play. In amongst that shower. Fantastic.

But as for changing it. The goals didn't come because of our tactics they came when we had all our defenders in position & they were shit. Change won't help that.

They also shpuld have scored more and the chances that they created at those times were down to those players mentioned and also the isolation of silva in midfield at times due to playing the same way but with vastly inferior players to nolito, gundogan and kdb....having navas, fernando in place of those mentioned above and trying to play the same way is always going to fail as is pushing kolorov up so high that when we lose the ball his attempt at recovary is completely and utterly pointless which then leaves us massively exposed.

Those players cannot play against teams with high tempo physical presses...we saw it last year and we saw it again today...if pep doesnt change it then we will lose more points to spurs arsenal and diperpool and potentially against anyone else brave enough to try it.

Said it last year about how pellegrini went about it and the same stands for pep....he is trying to do something with certain players that will work against average teams but unless you have your best 11 (or close damn to it) against the strongest teams we will come undone and lose points to our title rivals.....we can still win the league regardless of this as other teams will do better against spurs liverpool and arsenal than we potentially will.....but trying to play that way with inparticular fernando (who doesnr move the ball well enough or quick enough and is easily pressed and against navas whose technical ability and one touch play is poor and therefore is onneffevtual attacking wise and also gives away possession plus with kolorov then having to defend against quick powerful wide players as a result of being on the back foot and losing control in midfield, will result in us losing to the better teams...we then rely on others to do our job for us and take points off tje others....spurs can now afford to come to our place now and leave with a draw and they would be 4pts better off than us....play like today with the same players at our place and they will take all 3 off us

The drop off in quality when 2-3 midfielders are missing is too big to play in exactly the way pep wants. To try snd do this will lose us points as it did last year...same players causind the same problems.....you can afford to have one of them in against the vetter teams but not all 3 (fernando kolorov and navas....you can sadly add zabba to that now)

Was expecting our first defeat today and it's helped thinking Pep won't allow a hangover from it
We need to stop our defence being got at and with our strongest 11 out we retain the ball enough to limit that but the timing of no KDB or Nolito added to a midweek tough match before Spurs away was to much
I'm not moaning as we gonna have some great times ahead but anything bar our best 11 is going to get destroyed by Barca
If we try and pass out from the keeper ( who I'm not a fan of so far ) like we did today v Barca I can see a cricket score

We got found out in the last 2 games, so we need to be able to adapt our game to suit our opponents. Otherwise, Pep will just become a more expensive and successful version of Pellegrini. That said, we won't come up against many better teams than Spurs, who will run all of the title contenders close if they carry on playing like that.

lot of pellegrini players out there today, the two best performers stones and bravo, were pep signings. Won't reach peak Pep till more of these players are sold.
