European away games ticketing policy

Thank god for that.. common sense prevails for once

But there will be hell to pay if they completely do away with the loyalty points system

It will be very interesting to see who they consult with.
All I ask for is transparancy, to where/who the clubs allocation of away tickets goes to.
That will open a can of worms and will open a lot of eyes, to just how many tickets, actually get sold through the loyalty system.

I don't believe the points whoring is a issue or a concern with the club , it's just making sure the person buying the ticket is the one that uses it !

I still think that they'll implement some sort of system that makes it so that the person who purchases the ticket has to be the one that uses it.

They'll also probably introduce a ballot at some stage as interest for away games increases.

The strength of our points system is that it began about a decade before the money arrived so it genuinely rewards long term commitment.

Any attempt to introduce a ballot system will be strongly opposed.

So I book hotel and flights on the basis with the amount of points (just under 11000)I have that I'd most probably get tickets and they scarp it !!

Sorted...............all tickets going to the offical travel partner and our corporate friends!!

Someone earlier in the thread said it stops knobheads going, it certainly doesnt ! we were in the queue for 90 mins when a coach full of coked up pricks turned up. One particualr knob said 'it doesnt say anywhere on my fuckin letter i have to queue, so you can all fuck off' and about 15 pushed in the queue. they the threatened someone to knock him out for telling them to get in the queue. It was an absolute farce.
I will echoe what someone said earlier, what industry treats their paying customers in that manner ? Nobody in any other walk of life would stand for that treatment.

Yep, this was right in front of me & is the same as I described earlier in this thread. The 2 lads were about to go at it until one of the lads mates calmed one of them down.

"Under UEFA’s competition regulations, clubs are responsible for the allocation and distribution of match tickets and ultimately for the conduct of their supporters in and close to the stadium. Clubs also have to keep records of the names and addresses of all ticket holders"
So I feel they still need to minimise the chances of people selling on tickets, so Maybe as the collection process has been scrapped a more sensible system will be put on place, many suggestions on this thread .

For Barcelona? Reckon you'll be fine to get a ticket, it's not like it's the first time we've played them so there'll be plenty people sitting that one out

Statement from City

An important update on the UEFA away match ticket collection process ahead of City's trip to Barcelona on the 19 October.

The UEFA away match ticket collection process was put in place for a number of reasons:

Supporter feedback that the current ticket sales process does not work and access to tickets is becoming more difficult
Supporters that qualify are buying tickets with no intention of attending the respective match and selling them on
Inappropriate behaviour of a small number of supporters when at the away ground
Feedback on the process and the reasons for this has been extremely positive, not least because it has allowed supporters to access tickets that they would not normally have had the opportunity to purchase.

The Club accepts that the process for the Celtic match was not as effective and efficient as it could have been and that it had an impact on the matchday experience for some supporters. Whilst the Club will do everything it can to ensure that a genuine qualifying supporter has the opportunity to purchase tickets, and other measures are in place to do this, it would be remiss of us to ignore supporter feedback at this time. The Club is also aware that being in advance possession of a match ticket in Germany enables free travel which is an additional consideration for our ticketing process.

For the F.C. Barcelona and Borussia Monchengladbach Group Stage matches, the Club will waive the usual ticket collection process. However, we may reactivate this for any further stages of the competition, whether in its current or revised form and/or subject to the opposition or to ensure we comply with any UEFA competition rules. It is also important to note that there are a number of clubs in the competition that insist on certain security measures being put in place and we will respect and adhere to all processes as advised by the home club.

We are aware that this will have an impact on supporters that have been able to purchase tickets for some recent UEFA Champions League matches that had previously been unable to do so. As a result, the Club will be undertaking a full review of the away match ticket process, for all competitions and the Ticket Points system. This will involve supporter consultation throughout the course of the season with any changes being implemented for the start of the 2017/18 season.

Finally, we would like to remind supporters that their behaviour travelling both to and from and within the away ground reflects directly on the Club’s reputation. We ask that you behave in a manner that is appropriate to your fellow supporter, shows respect to the opposing club and that you act as ambassadors of not only Manchester City, but also the City of Manchester.

City are heavy on behaviour side of things.

But even they have to admit we are very well behaved when we go abroad.

The only issues of note have been at Madrid with the Police, and Ajax, both set's of fans, and Seville, their fans.

Apart from that throughout the majority of our CL away matches, there has been no trouble.

I don't think it needs to be to be too elaborate. A combination of spot checks outside the away ground and a very limited number of collections. Fans need to know that if they sell on: 1) there's a realistic chance that they will be caught out; 2) if they are caught out they will be barred from receiving tickets for a period of time. Similar sanctions for Supporters Clubs that abuse the system.

Well it should be as re-selling football tickets is illegal. And that's what points whoring involves. By ensuring the person buying the ticket is the one who uses it, the club is ensuring it's taken appropriate measures to comply with the law.

The points system has outlived its usefulness. It started to encourage people to buy tickets for less popular games with the prospect of being rewarded when tickets were given out for more popular games.

Similarly for supporters clubs, who took additional tickets and ensured there was less administrative hassle for the club.

Now it's relatively rare for a game to be generally available, unless it's a midweek game that most can't or don't want to go to because of the timing, travel or work. But the points system just encourages people to buy tickets, either to sell on or even not using them. Plus the horrible Platinum system, which is a disgusting attempt to squeeze yet a few more quid out of desperate supporters.

I suspect we're going to go to a ballot system. That may not be fair on people who do all our the vast majority of games without fail but the rags very round that by having a separate category in their ballot for fans with long-standing loyalty. They also force their executive club members (i.e. corporate seat holders) to apply for tickets via a ballot.

So a ballot nay not be perfect but, as well as getting rid of platinum, supporters club allocations and the dance of allowing corporate members to have as many tickets as they want, it would get my vote.

My sentiments exactly, I'm glad somebody gets it !
