When a manager keeps going on and on and on about never changing as a manager of another team I would think, wow, great I'll watch their matches and learn how to play against them. Simple as!!

And before you all shout, he's won 21 trophies in 7 years; did he win these trophies playing in the PL? Did he win these trophies playing in England?

I'm sorry but Emperor's New Clothes springs to mind.

I will support Guardiola because he manages Manchester City but as I've said before I do not think he is the Messiah, just another manager and he can make mistakes but he needs to admit this and needs to look at how other teams play and to make sure that we have a plan B. Plan A is not working at the moment.

I'm sure I'll get some stick for not worshipping at the shrine but I am not a worshipper just a City supporter who is extremely disappointed, even if we are just top of the league, we should have been more than goal difference top of the league we should be starting to pull away!! JMHO

Two high spots for me today: Vinnie was back and the clouds over the stadium which spelled out City!! (For non believers I took a photo of that!) :-)

Oh by the way, I thought the booing at half time was for the ref and, although I didn't hear any booing at full time, it could have been for the time wasting from Southampton.

What did we learn today.
- Sane good but better on left.
- Sterling good but better on right (we knew that already).
- Keletchi is good against physical teams and is looking like he will be awesome in the future.
- Silva had a mare of a game, he was brilliant against neverton but poor today and slowed the play down.
- Gundogan also blows hot and cold in terms of his performances not linking well with Silva.
- Aguero just not getting the space and too greedy at times.
- Dinho average by his standards bar the great pass for the goal.
- Kev still looks not match fit after the injury.
- Right royal fuck up at the back between Komps and Stones. We need to have consistancy at the back particulary if we are playing this passing out from the back game. Lets pick two CB and stick with them.
- Bravo did well after the nightmare on the Barca match but still too many heart in mouth moments for me.
- Kola was typical kola.

Frustrated but not too worried, still a long way to go. Really want to smash that bunch of tossers on Wednesday though.

I think this 3 at the back thing needs to stop as well. I get our fullbacks are old and no longer the players they once were but Sane offered zero defensive cover today and they were running at our back 3 for fun. He changed the system later on where Dinho dropped back into defence and we sort of played a 4-4-2 and we looked a lot more solid.

Pep is ruining City. I've been a Pep hater since Barca days. Bayern got the better manager (My posts month ago will back this up). Look, he has had success. No doubt. But he managed a Iniesta and Messi coming into their prime and a Bayern squad who was in the CL Final the year before. He never took the squad past where City made it last year on their own. The loyalty he has shown to the City fanbase has been disHARTening to say the least. We get it, you're the Alpha. But he's sacrificing our present for a brighter future and supporters have this misplaced hope that it will be better down the road. The only reason is that we're investing millions in the future. Nothing to do with him. He buys young players so when he leaves it is his "legacy:. Yaya and Hart treatment is terrible. The Kun rumors are terrifying. You have a top three striker in the world and want your own man. You can see this in his history from Samuel to Zlatan. Tactic formations are great but we don't have the back ups to replicate the class of the first team (no matter the reports of the press supporting his decisions). I realize most will disagree but sack Pep now before our squad is in shambles. Results show the true class. And in the end, Bayern is worse then when he took over. The young players are not the answer to a better manager (Carlo). Why should we have hope that the publics opinion that the young class should overrtake the older just because? Bayern was worse and Barca was coming into their hayday before him. Plastic fans will support him regardless but the true and through fans know he is a mistake.

The team was growing old, stale and complacent. Kompany's constantly injured, Zab's done, Yaya's done, Silva's getting on, Aguero picks up to many knocks and whenever he's in form an international break comes around and he comes back disrupted.

That's not to say get rid of all of them, but we need a fresh team and we're in the process of building one. Nacho, De Bruyne, Jesus, Stones, Sterling, Sane,Gundogan is a start but that's all it is.

For all the fuss about Aguero being dropped midweek, he hardly showed Pep today what's mistake he'd made in leaving him out.

Fortress Etihad is no more. I miss it! Just means we re going to have to pick up points on the road v Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal if we have any hopes of winning the title.

Oh and a big thanks to Metrolink today for having no teams from Alty on match day, appreciated. Fuckers!

Simple fact is you can't give teams a goal start. Second half we played very well but for the error by stones we win 1 nil cos they didn't threaten at all.

We all have different opinions mate...and respect yours as much as anyone else but this team was already at a point, where "major" changes needed to happen. You only needed to watch last season to see the spine of the team needed to be ripped out and a fresh direction put in place.....We've got the "only" man that can take us to the next step. Whether its Yaya, Silva or even Aguero.....if you not doing what the teams need you to do, someone else will......I got no issues with Pep making changes, dropping players etc....infact its refreshing to have a manager that stands up to players like Yaya, who think they bigger/better than the team. I think we might have mixed results this season and possible that we do miss out on the prem as there is still a number of players that dont fit in Pep's long term plans and rightly so BUT I believe Future is looking very bright.

The mood and mental state of the players was poor. They did not or could not focus on the match. We equalized in the second half but the overall performance did not improve that much, just huff and puff with no mental clarity, approach or coordination between the players. Most of the big names- Aguero, De bruyne in the first half and even Sterling were poor.

It is a waste of two points because Southampton did absolutely nothing. Everton played much better than they did. This is a match we must win!! and we have to make up for these two points wasted somewhere in the future.

Whatever is troubling the players, it needs to be sorted out because this kind of showing is simply not acceptable.

Stirling was poor on the left but much better on the right.......I hope Pep learns quick because being left hung out to dry on the left is a waste of a team spot.

Pep saying it is not just about individual errors, he knows it's bigger than that. This is all about mentality which goes back years. I do worry about those with a nervous disposition. If you think Bob was harsh wait until you see how Pep reacts to this type of performance. In response to the title of the other thread, yes we are seeing the breaking up of old guard.

Good God

This game threw up some big questions in my opinion.
- 3 at the back? Did this contribute to Stones mistake. Are the players really comfortable going to this when they haven't been playing it for most of the season?
- can we really fit Silva, Kev, Ferna and Gundogan all in the starting XI? Is it too easy to counter with a packed midfield?
- do we look better with Nolito starting? I think we do

The tempo was too slow, virtually straight from the kick off. Too many players wanting an extra touch, and the midfielders in particular looking nervous.. Kompany overhitting long passes, and Silva and De Bruyne both preferring to pass rather than shoot, even when it was crying out for somebody to put their foot through the ball.

Credit to Southampton, but our tactical intelligence was poor. How many times did we come inside and ignore the overlap, or hit a good cross with nobody in the middle?

Sane and Sterling were both briefly impressive, but other than Kompany not getting injured, and possibly Bravo;s distribution, I’m struggling for positives.

Once again, I was disappointed with Silva and Aguero.

Booing at half time was for the crud 1st half performance, they didn't need a keeper we were that bad, deservedly booed too.

For God's sake, just fucking shoot and stop trying to walk it in the net!

2 points dropped given other results this weekend.

At least the shite are getting tonked.

Its still an individual error rather than a team or tactic issue imo and as for most managers......none of them have won 21 titles in the last 7 years ;-)
Luis Enrique has won a lot at Barca too which suggests to me that having the greatest footballer of all time in your XI does make things slightly easier. Bayern did what Bayern do. Which is not to say that I don't think Pep is a great coach but I do think his intransigence on this is going to cost us big time.

Agreed.

And perhaps Peps biggest strength is that he has the bollocks to do just that. Drop a few.

He can turn this around, no doubt, and if dropping some undroppables is what it takes I'm all for it.

For a few it would be 2 or 3 years overdue.

At what point does a manager look at himself too?
He cannot assume he is always right, and he cannot assume his playing philosophy is the only way to go.
Surely a great manager who is asking his players to adapt also needs to be able to adapt himself?

He might have to have even bigger bollocks to include himself in the list of staff of who need to improve.

I'm not knocking Pep especially, merely suggesting that he's not perfect either.
