You're watering down the term 'racist' and misusing the term 'xenophobic' (a person would that was xenophobic would hate/fear all foreigners yes).

Some people hate the French, some hate the Irish. Not me, but some, that's all there is to it.

And those people are anti-French and anti-Irish which is the term I used in my first sentence. My point is I don't think that is acceptable. I'm not going to change my mind on that.

I grew up in Middleton and live in Failsworth at present. I can't think of anyone I know who is openly prejudiced against the Irish. It was same during my time in East London where immigration was everywhere.

I'm either very naive or cowards behind keyboards finally have the courage to throw their bigotry around.

Considering Manchester was a hub for Irish immigrants many moons ago and the hospitable feeling towards City fans in Glasgow, I find it quite bizarre the hostility directed at the Irish and Celtic fans in particular.

Everyone does remember it was the blue side of Glasgow that tore Manchester apart in 2008 yes...?

It's all about football for me. Those Rangers c#nts who celebrated Wigan's goal at Wembley in front of me put me off the Bears. They've still got many great fans but many of them are a poor man's Millwall 1980s tribute act.

Many Irish folk despised the IRA (and the equivalent Unionist thugs of course). This fact has been lost in the romanticising of the troubles by film directors etc.

My mates's uncle was beheaded by the IRA. He was Irish catholic btw

I've had folk tell me my name is quintessentially English. It isn't. My forename is Hebrew and my surname is Welsh. Not many know I am Welsh originally but, before talking for the first time, I've had English people approach me for a chat purely because my Wales shirt interested them.

Welsh nationalism does exist. I know Welsh people who switch from speaking English to their mother tongue when outsiders are around purely so they can't understand what is being said.

my grandad is welsh from pontypridd and I've got other family from the rhonda. from my experience welsh people dont hate enlgish people at all. they are some of the most welcoming people. there is welsh nationalism buts that can be applied to england swell.

I know students or professionals in Manchester who only made friends with outsiders because locals don't want to know them.

I had the same experience in London. It's tribal wherever you go but have personally found Welsh football fans to be top notch. England behaved like ****s in France.
