Burnley - Post Match Thread

Got the points which is what matters, however another largely poor display against a bunch of shitters really.

Surely a real concern is the square, robotic, predictable pattern of passing and moving(or not) resulting in largely easy defending for the opposition. Not too much created again. On a positive note, I really like how sane tries to make smart off the ball runs...i reckon pep should start the lad much more.

My only disappointment today was sterling, seems to have regressed to his indecisive self after a great start to the season. Sometimes you can pull the trigger lad, and sometimes it will go in.

Like to see Sane get some game time now to give Raheem some competition, thought he looked bright when he came on.

Not one of our 3 right wingers is making himself automatic selection atm. Sane is new to the country and the league so needs some slack but all of them really need to start contributing a lot more. Sterling had a poor game today - decision making and execution both lacking - but let's hope his injury is not serious.

Good hard fought gritty win.

Ottomendi really frustates me, sometimes looks a really good defender and brings the ball out well but then there is the rash, diving in and needless fouls he gives. Pep needs to another word and tell him to cut this out of his game.

We need another CB in the window if possible with Vinnie out.

Pleased for Serge who was excellent today

Need to play better next week.

Great that Sergio is back amongst the goals.

We need it.

Sterling is physically & mentally tired same as the others but I think on the whole he's been fantastic this season & one of the best in Europe in his position.

Last season I could see us losing a match like that. Well pleased with the result.

The game wasn't a classic but this is how league championships are won - and you get no style points. On a freezing cold day, away at a bunch of cloggers, we won.

3 points are all that matters.

Great to get one over on Ben. Silly clattering and should have given away on Touré which resulted in Aguero scoring.

BT can fuck off.

He is only lacking game time becuase he's not putting it in when he plays.

We have kids of our own who would be more useful at the moment. He needs to shape up if he wants to be involved this season.
Sorry nev, but i disagree. I thought he looked good when he came on, making runs, good passing and link up

Agreed. I was expecting a total speed merchant who would fly at defenders but tbh I was probably the victim of Youtube hype.

Probably he wanted some steel in midfield and give rest to KDB/Silva, but dropping all 3 is a big risk nonetheless.

At least two would play every game.

The word 'risk' is the wrong one. The risk, is knackering them out physically & mentally by January & then having to patch them up for 4 months. That's the 'risk' Pellegrini has been taking with all our players & it's largely failed.

We played an early kickoff after a load of internationals & 3 away games including Champs League. Then we get Chelsea.

We may not beat Chelsea, but we will be playing v them with our strongest possible squad under the circumstances, so our chances of winning will be at their highest possible, under the circumstances, even if it doesn't work.

Meanwhile we have won 3 aways on the trot.

That's why Pep is the fucking man.

Also, I thought BT turned a corner this season with stopping the ridiculous blatant bias against us - however they're back to the way they were.

Not asking for bias in favour of us, just wanting them to be fair.

Also, can we get a ref that isn't on a mission to screw us?

Maybe a couple of weeks off recovery will see him stronger. He was poor v Gladbach too. He was up against Ward today who used to play for Wolves and Brighton - hardly a world class LB he was faced with. I expected more.

'Our players showed huge character'

Burnley 1-2 Man City

AFP
Man City manager Pep Guardiola on how hard his side had to work for their win: "It has been the same for Arsenal, Liverpool and all the teams who have come here - it is so complicated.

"I have to learn how to control the second balls because in Spain and Germany teams do not play long or with these flat balls and crosses with the same intensity, or so frequently as Burnley did.

"Burnley were taller and stronger than us so it was very hard for us to deal with, but generally it was a very good performance from us, especially because it came just two days after we played in the Champions League. All of our players showed huge character and we are so happy because this week was very important for us.

"The other thing I have to learn about English football is the referees. Sometimes it is a foul, sometimes it isn't. I am not judging them but it is simple like that - here it is completely different to different countries."

I love pep
