Hoodoos are there to be broken. This is the last one. Why not? Utd go there regularly and get a result. NOW ITS OUR TURN. Lets shut that Klopp and all the Liverpool pundits up. Look at them. Souness, Carragher, Rednapp, Lawrenson, Hanson as was, Murphy etc etc. And the City pundits are................?

When did this turn into the Liverpool appreciation thread? Looks very much like some people are posting, hoping to come back on Saturday telling us all how clever they've been. I'm all for an honest assessment of what might happen but reading that they're some sort of super team, that they'll 'murder' us, that Bravo is "the worst goalkeeper to EVER play for City - only reason we've won games is the opposition haven't had shots", is somewhat perverse, to say the least.
I for one will be my usual relentlessly optimistic self, whilst panicking every time they go forward (exactly the same as Burnley on Monday). Whenever the teams are announced I always think, which of their players would I swap for ours? Looking at Liverpool I might take their fullbacks and I MIGHT take Mane (although who I'd swap him for, I'm not sure). Did the same with Arsenal and it was only Sanchez. Did the same when we played the rags and it was nobody. Turns out, the players we've got are quite reasonable......

The last few times we have played liverpool we have played into their hands tactically. I hope pep has learnt that if we play like we do normally its exactly what will win liverpool the game.....they will press the hell out of us in the first 30 mins and that will lead to the inevitable mistake from a defender or the goalkeeper. Play like we did vs barca in the second half and we can win.....but this has a defeat written all over it and i hate the scousers as much as the rag lot.....in fact i mate hate their supporters a little more

Marking the two respective squads,or best 15,out of 10 we'd accumulate a higher total. We have the better players overall, but they seem to make more of the sum of their parts at the moment.

My biggest concern is that we are no better than them in key positions ie keeper, central defence & fullback & that they each have a mistake in them when put under pressure.

If we set up right, show the right mental mindset & work our socks off - which should be a given - we can win this game. A big opportunity for Razza.

Go lad,go !!

you wouldn,t think so reading some posts on here

Admittedly our keeper and defence can be pretty shit, but so are theirs.

We have better attacking players, Kun is back, and Yaya looking like he's arsed again. I think this will be a big statement game, coupled with one of those crazy Christmas/New Year scorelines.

Liverpool 3, City 5

This isn't so easy to call either way, simply because we've been so wildly variable in our performances over the season so far. Footballer for footballer, we've got, hands down, better players than theirs, but Klopp's got them playing as a single unit, a team in fact, and Pep has failed to do that at times with us. If we put together the first half against United and the second half against Arsenal, there's no reason whatsoever why we can't win. But that's a huge if. If we're missing for even one half of the match, we'll get done. One thing I'm sure of – if Yaya plays in a two man midfield, we'll get overrun as surely as we did at the Etihad last season. It must not happen. Yes, he looks leaner and fitter. But the back line simply won't be given enough protection, even with Ferny alongside him. I'd play Fernando alongside the two of them. I'd also play Raheem up front just because he'll get booed all game. He's a different player to last season, with a different mindset. I think he'll feed off the hostility.

United and West Ham got results there, no reason we can't!

I woke up feeling very confident of a win, not sure why? Keep it tight, give fuck all away and let the game settle down and not turn into a cross-fest and we could be ok

We need to play in their half, but be mindful of their pace

If we want to win the Champions League, we have to beat better teams than this so let's go and put a marker down and get 2017 off to a flyer!

The key is not to be 1-0 after 10minutes

Don't concede first and we'll have a good chance. We always seem to gift Pool goals but that's also due to the way they are stressing and pressing.

At least no Mangala and MDM as central defenders on Sat.

No offence intended, but that sort of shithead statement does my head in.

And you wouldn't take Lallana or Coutinho?!

Or second, third or fourth. This thread is bad enough now wait till the team announcement meltdown. Think I might bow out of the match day threads even earlier for this one.

Pep will surely pull out some surprises in the team selection. Can't wait for the match day thread.

We need to put a lock on Lallana, less so, Henderson, although he does for them what Fernandinho does for us, and can recycle very effectively.

Liverpool were strictly second-best at home to United until Lallana came off the bench and gave them more creativity.

United were able to intimidate them, physically, with height and pace down the flanks.

Personally, I think we should have Yaya as the screen, with the two Ferns trying to match them in the middle for intensity.

We need an out ball and only Yaya will give us that as they press high.

Even then, I think we need to ask our own questions of Liverpool and they didn't look comfortable playing against two up top.

The ball will just keep coming back if it's Aguero running down blind alleys.

Sterling has to play, as does Stones for me. You can never have enough quality on the ball against a fellow possession team.

Want to see Sagna, Otamendi, Stones and Clichy at the back.

Sadly, I think this is one of those fixtures where home advantage makes all the difference, rather than any perceived superiority.

I'm of the belief the winner of this game will win the title.

Expecting us to fall short in this game at vital moments and a draw would be a great result.

Hope for 2-2 - expect to lose 3-1

I don't think Pep will be thinking too much about the threat that Liverpool impose. He'll probably be thinking more along the lines of well we imposed our game on Man Utd at Old Trafford, Chelsea at home for a good 60 minutes and both Barcelona & Arsenal after we'd gone a goal down.

I think he'll set us up to control the game and he'll tell the players exactly that pre match.

Of course Leicester away was a shambles and we need to guard against something similar happening here but I'm fairly confident that we can control the game for a long period like we have in the 4 games mentioned earlier.

I'm not brave enough to suggest that we'll win due to our record at anfield and inept officials but a draw is a reasonable shout in my opinion.

I do think it'll hurt though as 9 points behind Chelsea is a lot and a gap I believe that's too big to claw back seeing as they have no Europe to contend with but a top four (preferably 2nd) place finish, a good run in the champions league and maybe an FA Cup final appearance would be a decent season all things considered for me.
