Former referee, Graham Poll: "Marriner appeared unfocused and off the pace throughout this top of the table clash."

Former referee, Graham Poll: "As a result he was poorly positioned for the key decision which swung the game away from Manchester City."

Yaya Touré on City's 2-2 draw Spurs: "The manager and the players were frustrated because we feel like we've been robbed."

Just seen Lukaku's head in on Ota when Ota goes down like he has been shot like a sniper. Not condoning his actions at all but Nolito get a straight red for practically the same thing. Lack of consistency or bent? Why can't football introduce video technology like rugby has and the game can continue why footage is being reviewed. And when a goal has been scored the ref can ask if there is any reason not to award a goal. Likewise the fourth or fifth official can look at a penalty claim whilst the game is going on and 10 seconds via the ear piece tell the ref it was a penalty. It doesn't take a lot to sort out, but do the powers that be want that scrutiny? We would have had at least two penalties on Saturday, a couple against Leicester, one possibly two against Burnley etc, Luis would have been carded...the list is endless

He did until someone in his earhole said it not a foul then he looked around and just let the game go on.

Identical to the Fernandinho red the other week. There seemed to be a delay, then the ref visably put his finger to his ear piece, then instantly pulls out his red card. Not saying it wasn't a red, but he visably got a cue from somewhere.

Inconsistency riddled with incompetence , and with other individuals blatant bias ?

Scudamore's direct line ?

You always look for black and white Frank, when in reality there are usually just shades of grey. So there's no men stroking white cats and plotting the demise of Manchester City. Fine. There are however, individuals whose integrity is such that they're prepared to be disingenuous about which team they support, and who pass themselves off as "fans" of minnow clubs in neighbouring counties in order to then render themselves eligible to referee the teams they supported as children. There are also (I would imagine, as I cannot prove or disprove it) individuals susceptible to the subliminal pressure heaped on them by the head of the FA touring the world and announcing that a weak Manchester United is bad for business, and by the media whose advertising revenues are adversely affected by United, the Dippers and the Arse not being top of the tree, and by the foam flecked managers of those clubs who pressurise and pressurise and pressurise and use that compliant media to humiliate and denigrate those officials that dare to give big decisions against them, to the point that those individuals may not give those decisions unless they are 100% clear cut at one ground (ie the Swamp), but will give them when they're clearly only 50% certain at other grounds. And then there is the level of personal ambition to consider. Officials are doubtless no different to anyone else in their desire to rise to the top of their profession and manage the truly big games at the truly big clubs. Just like politics, refereeing is show business for ugly people. So when they watch one of their colleagues get ostracised from the Swamp for 15 months (as once happened to Martin Atkinson) for daring to give the opposition (Portsmouth if memory serves) a penalty at Old Toilet and causing Whiskey Nose to tear him to shreds in the press, do you think that might render them more or less inclined to give unpopular decisions when they themselves get the gig?
There are many factors that common sense must tell you are likely at play then, but nothing that you can point to and say with cast-iron certainty, "Yeah, wham, there it is, corruption!"

What I do know for sure then is that while adverse decisions do get given against United and Liverpool and Arsenal, a great many more do not, whilst the reverse is true of City. When was the last time we got a 90th minute game changing penalty of the type Arsenal got today? At home to Spurs 5 years ago? And even then it had to be so nailed on as to be preposterous not to give it. And then there was Sterling last year against Everton in injury time not given, the ludicrous penalty involving the same player against Spurs last season, the non-sending off of David Luiz, the 4 (count them, 4) clear red cards that should have been shown to Rojo and Big Nose in the space of 6 weeks, the Feghouli sending off, or going back further Phil Dowd sending off 2 Newcastle players for nothing at Klanfield on the final game of the season in 2014 to try and help the Dippers snatch the title from us when they were losing, or yesterday when Andre Marriner didn't book Song for the EXACT same offence he booked Aguero for at Burnley 6 weeks earlier, I could go on and on, but suffice to say when was the last time City got a huge decision like that in our favour? Whether you're dealing with intentional or unintentional bias, the result is the same. The team that espouses the best football and enjoys greater possession than any other in the league, somehow top of the red and yellow cards table (and the same thing happened to Pellegrini in 2015 I think).

Yeh, there probably aren't hordes of officials deliberately out to get us (although I will never include Taylor or Mason in any list of the innocent), but equally there's plenty of evidence that City routinely get the shitty end of the refereeing stick compared to any team that plays in red. Let the scales fall away mate......

Absolutely brilliant post

Maybe it's time to get rid of this closed system that is the PGMOL. Accountable to...... The PGMOL, and clearly in the pocket of Sky/BT. The ultimate self licking lolly pop. Why do ref's have to sign a non-disclosure clause in their contract? Is that to save them from the embarrassment of having to explain themselves every week when they've missed an absolute stone wall penalty again, or a blatant red card offence? And some of their post match reports would win a prize for best fiction writing.

This latest crop of Premiership officials are pretty piss-poor. Plenty of decent up and coming ref's in the lower leagues who could do a better job than this shower. I watched the Lincoln City FA cup tie last week on TV. The lad who refereed that had a great game.

Home. 2nd half. After our goals if I remember correctly. Not sure if just in or just outside the box (Our right), but The Burnley player was on a yellow. Silva gets to the bye-line touches the ball plays it behind the defender and as he twists behind the defender the defender takes him out. Then the ref accuses him of cheating as he's lying on the ground.

Was at the game and gobsmacked when Mason waved this one away, looked a stonewall free kick/penalty.

Can't see the FA agreeing to do away with PGMOL as it suits their purpose to have them in their pocket .

I think Sterling has in his head now that if a tackle comes in and he ends up on the floor he's gonna get booked . I am certain the lad has given up any notion that he will get a penalty no matter how extensive and all-encompassing the infringement. You go onto a football field with those kind of thoughts at the back of your head the full back has an immediate advantage and it encourages the full back to try his luck knowing that it's a 10-90 chance of him getting booked rather than Raheem.

Thought that on Saturday. He can't win.

Worst of all from a refereeing perspective was the foul on Fernandinho in the first half as he passed the ball. Navas has been put clean through so Mason blew up for the foul. OK it was Navas but that's not the point.

And that is a classic match-fixing action. Because the ref has clearly seen it yet chooses to take a positive decision to disadvantage the affected team.

Was it not Mariner who booked Sergio for lifting the ball over the keeper at Burnley after being given offside? Yet the same thing happened with Son on Saturday and no card was issued

Do you do requests mate?

If so I'd like to see Alonso on Navas from that game.
There's plenty I haven't found GIFs for - the Everton penalty, that one, the (other) sterling penalty shouts on Saturday etc.

I think it comes down to this.

We have had six penalties in the league this season - someone will correct me if I have missed any out and I have looked at league games only. We scored against Sunderland, Swansea and Stoke but missed two against Everton. We have been awarded one penally since, against Hull.

So, in our
first eight league games we were awarded five penalty kicks.

In our next fourteen league games we have been awarded one solitary penalty kick, and I have been posting GIFs of just some of the penalty appeals we have had turned down since then.

I just struggle to see how the team with the highest possession stats in the league simply
don't get fouled in the opposition penalty area.

That is to say nothing of the inconsistency involved - Fernandinho gets a red card against Chelsea for pushing Fabregas over, Dele Ali gets a yellow for the same thing on Saturday. Marriner books Aguero for putting the ball in the net after he had been flagged for offside, Son on Saturday doesn't get booked by the same referee for the same offence.

Something stinks.

It would be really good if you could produce a full set of all of the shocking decisions we have been victim of & send it to the FA, Premier League etc etc. Trend it on Twitter & Facebook

Don't have time. Wasted half a morning making myself angry about this as it is :)
