    The future

As I said, it's never happened to me as I guess they wanted to keep me as a tenant. Perhaps I have just been lucky. Anyway, we're probably heading a bit off topic so will leave it at that.

    The future

I was living there through the tsunami and a military coup so that doesn't worry me. I've spent the vast majority of my adult life abroad and know what to expect. We leave the UK in July this year and very much doubt we'll ever be back long-term.

    The future

I must admit that I have never had a problem with that but I agree that it could be a problem at the lower end of the rental market. I guess I just like the freedom and flexibility of renting.

    The future

I must admit that I didn't think about that! I'm in a bit of a different situation as I also have a house in Thailand where I will retire to, so that's not too much of an issue for me personally.

    The future

I'm not convinced that it is that much cheaper if at all when factoring in mortgage repayments plus the costs of maintenance etc that would fall on the landlord if renting. It could also work out more expensive if stuck in negative equity at some stage and needed to sell. Overall you are...

    Who will win euro 2024

Got to the semi-final in 2004 but actually made the final in 1996 (and won it as Czechoslovakia in 1976). Not too bad a record for a small country. Pretty poor at the moment though so doubt they'll get out of the group stage this time.

    I couldn't have a relationship with a woman who.....

Wouldn't be keen but not necessarily a deal breaker. Forgot to add to my list those chav types with fake brows, lips and tans. Very remiss of me.

    Vat on Independent school fees?

I would deserve that for my tongue in cheek comment ;-) Fortunately my youngest is in the final year of 6th form, so it won't affect me personally.

    Vat on Independent school fees?

Or perhaps those whose children use private schools could be exempt from contributing towards state schools ;-)

    Vat on Independent school fees?

Parents whose kids go to private schools also pay towards state schools through their taxes. Therefore the taxpayer isn't really subsidising it.

    Vat on Independent school fees?

Not surprising really. People aren't likely to have much sympathy for people who can afford to do some things that they themselves can't, be that private schools or cars/holidays etc.

    Vat on Independent school fees?

Exactly. It won't make much difference to the very wealthy but it will to those that can only send their children to private school by making sacrifices in other areas of their lives.

    Vat on Independent school fees?

Similar to mine. A bit less in the lower years and a bit more as they got older. My youngest is currently in her final year of 6th form and it is about £17,000. If I remember correctly, 1st year of secondary was about £13000. Primary quite a bit less.

    Vat on Independent school fees?

I completely agree with the first sentence but not the second. I'm sure most parents choose the private route because it provides the environment for their children to flourish and achieve the best that they are capable of.
