You could look at getting into the railway. There are 3 big maintenance depots in Manchester. Wages are generally higher in rail industry. You would need to pass a medical and have a drugs and alcohol test.

I do know enough about the job security as a conductor. But once u get in with northern they do like to promote from within. If you can pass the train drivers psychometric test you can have a good career as a train driver. Easy to earn 55k minimum.
